Urban Outfitters, the overpriced store selling cheap clothing and furniture has also resorted to cheap tactics. They’ve now deemed themselves to be the moral judges of what is proper.
This is going around the Internet rapidly and I just had to get my voice in there.
Urban outfitters recently yanked a t-shirt from their shelves, citing “bad press” as the reason. Was it one of their infamous “Voting Is For Old People” shirts? Or possibly the one with money signs encircling the phrase “Everyone Loves A Jewish Girl?” Or maybe one of the many shirt images that have been stolen from independent companies and designers?
Nope.
Urban Outfitters pulled their “I Support Same Sex Marriage” shirts from their stores and online shop after only a week of availability.
It’s their store. I get that, but what I don’t get is what they do find moralistically sound. Urban Outfitters is not so urban. They’re replacing equal rights t-shirts with sexist t-shirts?
The t-shirt says, “Fathers, It’s up to you to preserve your daughter’s virginity!”
This is not ancient times, people. Women’s voting rights were officially (and quite belatedly) passed in 1920. It is almost 100 years after that. Wake up and fucking protest this bull shit. This is not the first time that Urban Outfitters have been protested against. In 2003, they were forced to stop selling such items as GHETTOPOLY – an imitation Monopoly game that features Black American stereotypes and thus racist undertones. Also in 2003, they released a T-shirt with the phrase ‘Everyone Loves a Jewish girl.’ surrounded by dollar signs. So, really, why pay for over-priced American Apparel anyway?
“Ghettopoly”? “Everyone Loves A Jewish Girl” surrounded by dollar signs? Did you get a good look at that t-shirt? Come on! Don’t give these people your business.
Urban Outfitters, can you say, Boycott? I sure can. Send them a little love by way of email or phone: Contact them here. Or Write: Urban Outfitters Direct 30 Industrial Park Blvd. Trenton, SC 29847
