Rand Paul who supports abolishing the Department Of Education, said during the Kentucky Senate Debate, that getting federal government out of local schools would shield children from learning about the gay community.
PAUL: I would rather the local schools decide things. I don’t like the idea of somebody in Washington deciding that Susie has two mommies is an appropriate family situation and should be taught to my kindergardener at school. That’s what happens when we let things get to a federal level. I think I would rather have local school boards, teachers, parents, people in Paduka deciding about your schools and not have it in Washington.
Paul’s comments echo recent remarks by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) who said that if someone is openly gay, they shouldn’t be teaching in the classroom.

Rand Paul certainly has his right wing homophobic talking points down pat.
There is a GOP Tea Party favorite that wants to abolish public schools.
A Tea Party-backed Republican congressional nominee has championed abolishing public schools in California, and is currently the favorite to win his November election. The candidate, David Harmer, a corporate lawyer who has yet to serve in public office, is up against two-term Democratic incumbent Jerry McNerney for California’s 11th district — located in Northern California — in the House of Representatives
Framing the issue as a struggle between government tyranny and freedom — a preferred political tactic of conservatives — Harmer wrote: “In the freest and most prosperous country on Earth, in the midst of the information age, government ownership and operation of the schools is a counterproductive anachronism.”
This is becoming a right wing obsession. Do they meet in a warehouse to discuss what radical idea they’ll all decide to promote next? What will they think of next….repealing health care reform? No, that would be crazy!
