Pastor James Brown, Jr., of Barnesville, Georgia, sent a video today expressing support for H.B. 54, a bill to allow individuals to carry in places of worship.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) told reporters in the wake of the Arizona shooting, he’s forming legislation to permit members to carry guns on the floor of the House floor.
Our politicians vitriolic back and forth debate while carrying guns on the House floor is far more dangerous than not carrying. While most of us, left and right, would like to see civil discourse with our politicians — carrying guns on the House floor is not a setting for civility.
By making the gun access tougher for mentally ill patients and criminals, then we all benefit. For me, I’m an advocate of our 2nd Amendment rights. While the left is stereotyped as opponents of this amendment — almost all leftists I know support our right to bear arms. That said, why is this such a partisan issue?
I’ve read the debate before. “If someone was carrying during the Tuscon shooting, this wouldn’t have happened.” Arizona is a gun state, yet this happened undeterred by a gun carrying bystander.
Arizona does not require a permit, registration or license to purchase rifles or shotguns. A handgun requires a permit to carry only. The problematic thinking in this, is the right feels threatened that their guns will be taken away. Since the day the President was sworn in, ammo and guns have been selling out of stock.
Perhaps if the ‘alleged’ Tuscon shooter had been given a background check, this tragic occurrence may have only been a mere thought in his deranged mind.
