If he gets the GOP nod, then he’s obviously running if he’s trying to raise cash. Gingrich, the three time married Conservative, is courting Evangelicals to get their backing while opposing same sex marriage — Mr. Gingrich’s sister, Candace is an LGBT advocate.
Getting their support may not be easy.
To win the support of Evangelicals, the former House speaker may need to explain his confession — telling conservative Christian leader James Dobson that he was cheating on his wife at around the same time the House was impeaching President Bill Clinton over his White House affair with Monica Lewinsky. Clinton was later acquitted by the Senate the following year.
Gingrich dumped his cancer stricken first wife. When his pastor criticized him for not supporting his two children, he left the church. Mr. Gingrich dumped 2nd wife after cheating on her with the Congressional aide who is now his third wife. The scandal sidelined Mr. Ginrich in 2008.
Rick Tyler told The Associated Press Wednesday night that Gingrich is entering the exploratory phase of a presidential candidancy. He is set to talk about it at a news conference Thursday at the Georgia Capitol in Atlanta.
Gingrich stopped short of setting up an exploratory committee, which would have made him a legal candidate. Tyler says Gingrich and his wife must tie up loose ends with their businesses before they can take that step.
Gingrich led Republicans to victory in the 1994 midterm elections, handing the GOP its first House majority in 40 years.
He left Congress in 1999 after two tumultuous terms as speaker.
First Herman Cain caught the public’s eye, now he’s got competition from Newt. By the end of this week reportedly, he will announce his decision to form a presidential exploratory committee.
