Gov. Chris Christie signed into law a plan limiting collective bargaining of New Jersey’s public employees for health care benefits which cuts their paychecks, thus forcing public employees to pay more for their pension and health insurance.
Christie, who recently said, “I love Collective Bargaining” seems to be suffering memory issues.
Like Paul Ryan, Christie is saying this is an end to a means for the budget crisis. But, that’s bullshit.
We keep hearing about how much the middle class should sacrifice – but to what end? Remember this greed which is sweeping across America when it’s time to vote.
Christie is promising the wealthiest New Jersey residents to veto a millionaires surtax. But, it gets better — or worse really.
Think Progress reports:
New Jersey allows the governor to exercise a line-item veto over the budget, and last week Christie released his edits of the budget passed by the state legislature. As the Newark Star-Ledger reported, Christie saw fit to nix health care funding for low-income workers, tax credits for the working poor, and money for AIDS relief and mental-health services, while adding in money for school districts in some of “the wealthiest towns in the state“:
[Christie] mowed down a series of Democratic add-ons, including $45 million in tax credits for the working poor, $9 million in health care for the working poor, $8 million for women’s health care, another $8 million in AIDS funding and $9 million in mental-health services.
But the governor added $150 million in school aid for the suburbs, including the wealthiest towns in the state. That is enough to restore all the cuts just listed.
We’re keeping the wealthy educated and the poor and middle class ignorant — sounds a bit like the old days — Depression-era days.
Senate President Stephen Sweeny (D), who is catching flack after his collaboration with Christie on the pension criticized the governor’s set of priorities:
“For him to punish people to prove his political point? He’s just a rotten bastard to do what he did,”
I would have used more expletives but that works. Christie’s office whined to Sweeny on Tuesday for calling the Governor names and also saying he wanted to punch him. But the Senate leader, refused to apologize, saying Christie was in no position to complain about harsh language.
Make no mistake, this is classwarfare at its finest. Last year, far-right wing politicians debated a contingent, wanting to see the minimum wage shrink if not eradicated altogether — and this week, Michele Bachmann stated the same.
Attacks on unions and the recent demonization of what was once considered a noble profession — teaching, is now commonplace among right wing shills.
Deemed as a scam, we hear of the enormous pay rate evil greedy teachers are given for their cruel work in educating our children, but, the National average pay for a teacher is just between $40,426 to $43,860. Oh you scammers!
The dumbing down of America has begun, brought to you by the GOP.
