News Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch, his son James and another top executive have been asked for their presence to stand before a U.K. parliamentary committee in response to the phone-hacking scandal which victimized thousands of families, as well as former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
But, fresh allegations are still forming that not one, but three of his newspapers have been involved in illegal activities.
Murdoch’s newspapers (and I use that term lightly) , News International’s Sunday Times and The Sun(Britain’ s most read tabloid paper), allegedly used deception to try to obtain former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s private financial records. But, it gets slimier — The Sun allegedly stole Brown’s family’s medical records. Even though no one but his family knew that Brown’s newborn baby son, Fraser, had cystic fibrosis, the Sun miraculously splashed the exclusive across its front page in November 2006.
The Sun claimed:
“the story was used to increase national understanding of the condition, in partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.”
Sure it was (wink wink).
The Sunday Times, according to the BBC, acquired some details about Brown after he obtained an apartment from another controversial publishing magnate who is a former member of parliament, Robert Maxwell for a “knock-down price.”
In addition, after the phone-hacking scandal broke, which victimized thousands of people in the most unsavory manner, Murdoch’s company is rapidly losing its market value.
News Corp. (NWSA)’s loss of $7 billion in market value over four trading days shows investor concerns that a probe into alleged phone hacking by journalists at one London newspaper could have a broader impact on the company.
Hacked voice mails and emails of fallen soldiers’ families, as well as hacked voice mails of 7/7 bombing victims are being reported. 9/11 victims have allegedly been victimized by his employees after hacking their families phones.
If these unconscionable allegations do not prompt a fast and thorough investigation, it will go down in history as a billionaire magnet’s connections which allows the wealthy to do and hurt whoever they wish as long as their actions make them more wealth.
Do not forget; it is Murdoch’s companies which have demonized health care reform as a socialist, Marxist, Maoist entity. Who stands to gain from this propagandist hyperbole – Murdoch. Who suffers – America.
Let’s not hold our breath for Fox to report on this as incessantly as they did ACORN, Health care reform, Rep. Anthony Weiner, etc, etc ‘and so on and so forth.
