Governor Rick Scott (R-FL), a former health care executive, listed his net worth last year in a financial disclosure. Scott’s net worth in 2010 was $219 million, but he only pays $400 per year for health insurance for both his wife and himself.
The highly unfavorable Governor is also a critic of the health care bill but the multimillionaire and former hospital chain executive enjoys a taxpayer subsidized health insurance plan offered by the state of Florida. (Yes, he’s a socialist!)
While Americans are worried about rising health care costs attributed to predatory insurance companies Scott is among almost 32,000 people in state government who pay low health insurance premiums — this perk is afforded to high ranking state officials. For $8.34 per month an individual is covered and for $30 per month a family is covered. Again, a high ranking family.

Florida has one of the highest uninsured rates in the nation, according to data released last year by the U.S. Census. Scott and other Republicans have been very critical of the health care overhaul signed by President Barack Obama that is intended to increase the number of Americans with access to health insurance. Before he ran for governor, Scott ran a group called Conservatives for Patients’ Rights that ran television ads criticizing the health care overhaul.
Florida is one of the states suing to have the health care overhaul declared unconstitutional while rejecting federal aid tied to the health care overhaul. Scott has been actively cutting programs for the developmentally disabled in his state and plans to invoke his “emergency powers” to impose a 15 percent cut to the rates charged by group home workers and case workers that help the 30,000 Floridians with cerebral palsy, autism, and Down Syndrome. Every benefit for the poor, parks for the elderly and handicapped are being privatized, yet this man, doesn’t represent one average Floridian.
