Richmond Tea Party Blames Occupy Movement For Being Audited

November 28, 2011

The Richmond Tea Party has been distraught over the attention given to the Occupy movement while disregarding the prevalent use of police force, they laid claim to preferential treatment being given to OWSers. I digress, they are correct in that Tea Partiers have not had to suffer any form of police brutality so the preferential treatment they refer to must be another word for, police force.

Now they are being audited and correlate the scrutiny as a retaliatory act because of their claims and we are all aware that audits never occur, or they should not befall weeks before seeking attention.

The sequence of events:

Weeks previously, in victim-playing form during late October they hand delivered an invoice for the amount of $8,500 to the city of Richmond for costs incurred at previous rallies.

The city is now collecting delinquent fees from the Richmond Tea Party, Inc., and the city’s department of finance notified the group (which has an actual business address) that it is being subject to a comprehensive tax audit. The letter was signed by a field auditor,”  (see below) requests documentation, including a financial statement and federal tax return for 2010.

An important lesson to learn: Do not serve the city with an invoice if you are delinquent in paying fees.

While claiming Tea Party rallies are Saintly and the Occupy Movement is violent (never mentioning the violence incited by police), they attempted to draw attention to their sublime revolutionary garbed supporters and the foreboding darkness of the demonic OWSers.

Because Occupy in Richmond did not pay for permits, the Tea Party wanted a refund, although OWSers have paid enormously and are fighting for the distinct commonality between the two movements – or at least the once shared common grievances long ago before the Tea Party was hijacked.

More proof of the Tea Party’s inherent jealousy toward Occupy:

On November 14th representatives of our Tea Party attended the City Council meeting to speak to the Mayor and Council during the citizen forum. Mayor Jones, apparently too busy to listen to his constituents, got up and left before we spoke. He had no problem inviting members of the Occupy group to his office for a closed door meeting days later, at the same time refusing to meet with us.

In my lifetime, I have never discovered such a group of children, who whine over preferential treatment while at the same time they are virtually occupying Congress.

Remember the banks Tea Partiers were so angry about? The Portland Police overreacted a bit in preparation for Occupy Portland.  The ubiquity of the police is tantamount to OWS supporters, and they are jealous? It would have been a far better concept to work together but the division is playing out and the actors are our elected officials. So be it.

If the City charged the Tea party for facilities that were later given to the Occupy movement for free then the City needs to pay up – you cannot treat groups differently just because you disagree with their idealogy – what’s next – charge the blacks for a MLK parade and not the gays for a gay pride parade?

Occupy Richmond has NEVER been violent… as in zip, none, zero. The Tea Party sees something on TV and it’s the gospel? Does that mean every person who carries an ugly sign at one of your protests is part of your cause? I wonder since you denied affiliation. ORVA doesn’t have to pay for a permit, because it was denied, unlike the Richmond Tea Pary. They are gaining ground because they don’t whine, as in this article. After you spoke, ORVA spoke without a Mayor present. Also, try to remember ORVA let City Council see they were totally in support of the Richmond Tea Party refund. When’s the last time, the Richmond Tea Party said something supportive to ORVA? Another NEVER, as in zip, zero. Why are you a permitted business instead of a grassroots movement to make change happen? I hope you get a refund, if you don’t owe taxes. You should pay that first, right? Hang in there. You are NOT being signaled out. Hundred of audits were ordered, not just RTP. And if you have the documents showing you did file in 2010, then what are you waiting for as you talk to all of these media outlets? Good luck and take care. I really do hope this works out for you.

Josh you said it perfectly… I liked the use of “inherently jealous”, that really made me laugh!

      I try….

Wow that’s a whole lot of spin. One group pays $8,500 to use a park for a couple days while another “occupies” it for weeks and pays nothing and you back the people paying nothing.
There are two movements with very similar goals and articles like this only add to the divide… which is exactly what the powers that be want… good job.
