Another GOP Candidate Invokes the 2nd Amendment Solution

Florida Senate candidate Mike McCalister, who is running against Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), decided to dabble in GOP histrionics during a dramatic speech invoking the 2nd Amendment which didn’t played out well in the past.

“I get asked sometimes where do I stand on the Second and 10th Amendment, and I have a little saying,” he declared. “We need a sign at every harbor, every airport and every road entering our state: ‘You’re entering a 10th Amendment-owned and -operated state, and justice will be served with the Second Amendment.’

McCalister was appeasing Republicans who promote states’ rights in his speech. As Sam Stein reports,  “That said, the suggestion that firearms will be brought to bear against the federal government isn’t precisely a fixture of Republican Party talking points. Angle’s declaration that “if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies” earned her lasting criticism.”

This reoccurring dogma will earn McCalister some warranted criticism as well. Apparently, this ideologue wants to bring us back to the western days instead of progressing into adulthood where only grown ups are supposed to work in government.

I’ll bet the first time someone sticks a gun up his ass, he falls to his knees and starts crying like a baby.

Didn’t Cracked.com have a story about how people in the “wild west” weren’t exactly killing each other by the dozen? Its one of the dangers of believing that the present is always better and more evolved than the past. I am generally a pacifist, but the idea that gun control saves lives is bogus. What happens when you pass all kinds of laws to prevent people from owning firearms is that only law-abiding citizens are without firearms. And apparently, given Eric Holder’s Fast and Furious scheme, the government doesn’t mind giving criminals guns after all. So where are we regular, generally pacifist people left? Unprotected. Don’t even bring up police – from Market-ticker.org, “The United States Supreme Court ruled that there is no duty of protection toward any particular citizen by the police.” Castle Rock v. Gonzalez.

So, since the police are under no duty to protect individual citizens, and only criminals have guns, I think its in my family’s best interest that I own a gun. Even if it makes me a criminal.

I support the 2nd Amendment and have owned guns in the past. I don’t have one now only because I reside in a no gun state. I do however take issue with a politician touting the use of guns instead of actually doing their job in their elected office without using violence. This tactic did not fare well for Sharon Angle and it won’t fare well for this candidate. We need grown ups in office not kids playing cowboy.

I wonder if these “2nd Amendment Solutions” supports realize that they are really advocating a “Civil War Solution”?
