Oh, Poor GoDaddy: You just pissed off Anonymous Over #SOPA

The collective group Anonymous just released a video, part of which contains a warning, “Together, we will strategically remove Go Daddy from the internet.”

This links to a list of companies supporting the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and those entities should listen very carefully to the public’s angst because people are transferring their sites from GoDaddy’s in droves.

Anonymous states:

“We are Anonymous.

We have taken notice to your support of the United States Government’s attempt to censor and control the internet. We are talking about your support of the Stop Online Privacy Act. The fact that a company that sells domains supports a bill that will block ISP’s from allowing their users to access domains is unbelievable.

You have made yourself an enemy of the internet, and an enemy to Anonymous.

This december the 29th, we urge all users of Go Daddy to stop using their service and move to another domain host.

Ben Huh, CEO of the Cheezburger domains, has already pledged to make the switch; and there are many others that will soon be following the same path.

Together, we will strategically remove Go Daddy from the internet.

We are Anonymous.
We are legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Go Daddy, Expect us.”

As proof this boycott is going strong, listed on Reddit, thousands upon thousands of sites are transferring their (crappy) hosting service, with other hosts giving discounts.

SelfProdigy writes:

I just finished writing GoDaddy a letter stating why I’m moving my small businesses 51 domains away from them, as well as my personal domains. I also pointed out that i transferred over 300 domains to them as a director of IT for a major American company.

I’m suggesting Dec 29th as move your domain away from GoDaddy day because of their support of SOPA. Who’s with me?

EDIT (Added Sources & Statements)

Source: “Go Daddy has a long history of supporting federal legislation directed toward combating illegal conduct on the Internet. For example, our company strongly supported the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008, the Protect Our Children Act of 2008, and the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011 (PROTECT IP). Go Daddy has always supported both government and private industry efforts to identify and disable all types of illegal activity on the Internet. It is for these reasons that I’m still struggling with why some Internet companies oppose PROTECT IP and SOPA. There is no question that we need these added tools to counteract illegal foreign sites that are falling outside the jurisdiction of U.S. law enforcement. And there is clearly more that we could all be doing to adequately address the problems that exist.”

I also emailed suggestions@godaddy.com before i ever posted this.

Update: Looks like we got their attention: They posted this http://support.godaddy.com/godaddy/go-daddys-position-on-sopa today. It’s from “october” but it was posted today.

NEW EDIT: I’ve been talking with a few organizations that suggest we keep the boycott going until, GoDaddy announces they are no longer in favor of the SOPA act. They are working to setup a domain, with facts, counters, and more. The holiday’s is going to make it a bit tough as our resources are limited because of family events but i will keep posting as it comes through.

FINAL UPDATE:

Pledge your support to boycott Godaddy here. http://godaddyboycott.org

GoDaddy writes their support of this heinous bill:

Go Daddy has a long history of supporting federal legislation directed toward combating illegal conduct on the Internet. And there is clearly more that we could all be doing to adequately address the problems that exist

To all of my blogger friends, I urge you to transfer your sites asap. SOPA = Censorship. This site has fought against censorship tactics since its inception. I abhor the abomination they call SOPA. To stay with Go Daddy is to censor yourself. Go Daddy is SOPA’s bitch.Together we can accomplish anything. Occupy SOPA.

UPDATE:

Someone is listening:

In changing its position, Go Daddy remains steadfast in its promise to support security and stability of the Internet. In an effort to eliminate any confusion about its reversal on SOPA though, Jones has removed blog postings that had outlined areas of the bill Go Daddy did support.”Go Daddy has always fought to preserve the intellectual property rights of third parties, and will continue to do so in the future,” Jones said.

This Bob Parsons is a perverted old man, sexist, exploiter of women, murderer of endangered species and supports censorship. Anyone who now stays with GoDaddy supports these as well. GoDaddy didn’t change its support for SOPA because it now believes in freedom, they changed their support only for the money/business that they were losing period. So anyone who says they will now stay with GoDaddy are the sheep of this world and have no opinion themselves, just followers with a lack of intelligence. Good bye GoDaddy you can GoToHell.

This is just a publicity stunt. I used to actually think anonymous were cool guys, then I realized they were just a bunch of self righteous pricks who want everything when they hacked Sony and crashed the PSN for months because they said something bad about piracy. Same with this, they only care because its a bill meant to stop piracy. They don’t care about the fact that the internet would get censored as a result as long as they can play their cowadoody for free.

    • Anonymous

“OH noez Anons shut down my precious PSN for a month bawwwwbawwwwwww I have nothing better to do with my life, bawwwwwwwwww.” The bill WILL censor the internet, they do care that it will. Piracy is a whole other subject, we all know this bill isn’t about piracy. Go look what it can do, what they plan to achieve is a censorship of the internet equal to how China censors the internet.

    • Anon

And what are you doing to better this world and stop this abomination of a bill? It’s not just about piracy. We will be censored. By a Judge’s discretion he can shut down sites at will, but if you prefer to stay uninformed, that your option but allow the grown ups to take care of business for you.

    • mil3y

Sounds to me that you are pissed off that anonymous took down the PNS network for months and your loser ass had nothing to do .. I got an idea how about getting on the internet and actually reading the bill and maybe having a clue what you are talking about..

      • guest

I know what the bill was about, contrary to what you fags would like to believe. Its just obvious that anon doesn’t give two shits about it. They’re just mad that they won’t be able to pirate anymore as a side effect. they couldn’t give two shits as to whether or not this bill shuts down the internet if they they could still pirate from it.

        • IgnoranceIsPiss

If you are so sure of yourself “guest”, why not name yourself…? Seems as though you are hiding behind anonymity due to your own fears of being dox3d. Unless of course, you want to bring it… BITCH.

          • Dirt

            God you’re an Idiot

        • Anon

Anonymous fight for freedom of speech and they realise that the internet is the greatest, most powerful medium for providing that. Sharing information and knowledge is what they believe will lead to a better world. They would sooner take a stand against over-consumption, loss of identity, removal of free speech and other government-enforced policies than play on the PSN.

That incident was about a man opening up his own PS3 inside his own house, which he purchased with his own money, and making modifications to it. Sony attempted to sue him. It was symbolic of what we have always feared: that even in our own homes, with items we have worked hard for, the companies still own us.

    • ThePSNHacker! Oh NOEZ

Were you born a moron or did you have to practice? Mabe momma drop you on your head when you were a baby? I can honestly state that you, are the epitome of intellectual default, and i firmly believe I could fit you’re entire intelectual capacity into the space of a thimble, and yet still have room for my thumb. Now please begone ignoramus, read up on things a little before you open your mouth and allow a huge influx of unintelegent, uneducated nonesense to contaminate the rest of our world. And to the author of this, thanks for keeping up to date, and objective information comming. Great Job, and merry christmas to all.
