It’s time to Clean House to fix our Broken System: Take the extremists out of Congress

The following members of Congress have contributed nothing to this country thus far with the exception of unprecedented obstruction and lack of political discourse. Our system is badly broken and needs repair. The House has been held hostage by a group of extremists calling themselves, the Tea Party.

Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08) : Last year it was made known that Walsh owed over $100,000 in unpaid child support. Walsh is a dead beat Dad.  Ironically, the Republican congressman states Obama is over spending, saying he would not “place one more dollar of debt upon the backs of my kids and grandkids.” Walsh’s lack of integrity speaks for itself.

Chip Cravaack (MN-08):  Tea Party Representative Chip Cravaack (MN/NH) was called out for what “Nolan called the “worst holiday gift ever”:  slamming 160 million middle class working families across the 8th district and throughout the nation with a $1000 per year tax increase while protecting the wealthiest Americans and big corporations.” He is in line with the obstructionists in Congress, disallowing any progress to be made in this country. He stated that he will work to undo portions of the recent health care overhaul, although he also acknowledged he has not even read the legislation.  Cravaack also supports extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy — which failed miserably.

Sean Duffy (WI-07): After voting to end Medicare, this self deemed “struggling” Congressman — who makes $174,000 annually — spoke at a town hall meeting telling seniors how difficult his bills are to meet. Duffy is a protectorate of corporate interests, but not for senior citizens, the sick and/or the needy.

Allen West (Fl-22): “Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), whose comment over the weekend directed at President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress to “get the hell out” of America sparked an uproar.”

West told Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, who represents his neighboring congressional district, that “you have proven repeatedly that you are not a lady.”

The Hand that Feeds You reports:

Rep. Elect Allen West (R-FL) has said some nutty things in the past. From declaring himself to have a higher security clearance than The President to calling for the censorshipof American journalists, he has come across as, well, crazy. Has he tempered his public pronouncements in the wake of the resultant withering criticism?

Nope. He officially doubled down on the crazy during an appearance yesterday on The Murdoch Device:

“Asked by host Chris Wallace if he was willing to stand by his comments that the “liberal, progressive” agenda was “tyrannical, socialist, despicable,” West responded… “I think it is.”

You’d think that someone who has been describedby fellow veterans of the Iraq War as “a verified torturer, war criminal and a liar” might not play so fast and loose with words like “despicable.”

Frank Guinta (NH-01): Guinta was strongly opposed to the stimulus, yet was more than happy to accept millions for his district, after which, he expressed how economically sound it was:

“It’s going to help us with our tourism, our economy, and it’s going to provide us greater flexibility for our residents, our business commuters, and those visiting our state,” Guinta saidat the event. “It’s a real example of how when we put our mind to it we can accomplish anything we want to accomplish.”

So, he obstructed the stimulus, why? But there’s more:

Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH) fudged the numbers and cooked the books to buy a seat in Congress. Beginning in 2009, Rep. Guinta made several shady loans to his campaign committee, claiming the money was his own despite an income that seemed to preclude that possibility. For this, he has earned a spot on Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s (CREW) Most Corrupt Members of Congress annual report. Click here to read CREW’s full report on Rep. Guinta.

Between June 2009 and September 2010, Rep. Guinta made a series of loans to his campaign totalling $355,000.  His campaign committee reported Rep. Guinta had put up the money himself, but Rep. Guinta’s financial disclosure forms showed he didn’t have sufficient assets to cover the loans.

Soon after, Rep. Guinta filed an amended disclosure form, revealing a previously undisclosed bank account worth between $250,001 and $500,000.

Steve King (IA-5): King, like most Tea Partiers suggested that the President should be  impeached over the debt crisis. There are so many outrageous quotes that would be appropriate to call out, but I’ll just post a few.

When author Scott McClellan appeared before the House Judiciary Committee to testify about the exposure of Valerie Plame as a CIA agent, King said,  “Couldn’t you have taken this to the grave with you and done this country a favor?”

By the way, McClellan did the country a huge favor.

A few more King idiocies:

Steve King managed to draw attention to himself in many unique ways. There was that time, for instance, that he cast the lone vote against acknowledging that slaves played a role in the construction of the United States Capitol Building. He also strangely described gay marriage as a “purely socialist concept,” perhaps referring to the fact that reality television had created emerging and important markets for heterosexuals to thoroughly debase themselves in public. He also assailed hate crimes legislation for protecting “sexual idiosyncrasies,” no doubt out of nostalgia for a simpler time, when people with “sexual idiosyncrasies” were tied to fence posts and beaten.

It’s not as if any of the aforementioned have done nothing during the past year — they have in fact, attacked women, science and equality. Their hyper-partisanship has cost the country greatly and they are paid while harming the political discourse this country so badly needs. If the above politicians aren’t race baiting, many of them are racists. It’s above America’s status to give credibility where none is deserved.

Many thanks to ActBlue for this list.  Now, let’s get to work:

We’re opening field offices and hiring organizers in each district to power a unique, volunteer-driven grassroots campaign. Make a donation to ensure these extremists pay a high price for their radical Tea Party agenda – their jobs.

Allowing extremists into Congress was a poor choice. Our country’s system is broken – to repair it, we have to act.

I’m with you all the way. They need to be carpet bombed, as Gingrich loves to say. We need to expose criminals like this. They aren’t there to govern, but to enrich themselves!

Not as useless as your comments. If you see one person as the problem in our government, you know nothing about government, so shut up.

If you mean useless because none of his ideas are going into action because the majority is doing everything they can to shut them down just so he looks bad… then yes he is useless.

Know what I think the real problem with the country is? The separation of wealth is becoming more and more extreme, especially since the bush tax cuts. The rich will claim the extra wealth will let them create jobs causing the wealth trickle down. Well it has only become worse in the last 10 years, so that is a load of BS… not to mention Warren Buffet, one of the richest people in the country, KNOWS that it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work because the middle and lower classes cannot create the demand needed for those jobs to be created in the first place. Trickle down is like saying “You can finally have some money after you start spending it.” The masses don’t have enough money to stimulate the economy. Pure logic. I am not being paid by anyone to say this. I am in no ones pocket. I am not a democrat or a republican. I make all of my decisions on pure logic. This is a case of the simple supply and demand curves of economics. Bring the separation of wealth back to where it was 30 years ago, and keep it regulated. The economy will balance out.

There should be a few more democrats or at least one. The problem is that these type of people are the norm not the exception. As for the President, he has to deal with a senate and congress that writes bill so complex they do not even understand that they do. While passing things that they want no one to question as treaties. There needs to be major reform.

  • Caught in the middle

A little balance would have been nice.

Both parties are more interested in trying to make the other party look bad, obstructing anything from happening, and discrediting ideas rather than addressing the real issues.

Only showing only one side of the problem makes many people dismiss your points as being those of an extremist from the other side of the political spectrum.

I’m all for getting rid of the Tea-Tards, but why can’t we also get rid of some of the inflexible nimrods the Democrats send to congress too? It takes two gangs of idiots to to have this argumentative deadlock we have in Washington now. Aside from taking giant dumps on us every once in awhile (USA Patriot Act, constant tax cuts for the wealthy,10+ years of deficit spending), the congress is completely ineffective.

  • http://twitter.com/MCMyAss John Ringer

Well, those people DO generally seem to be scummy, but I’d say Medicare SHOULD be abolished, and stimulus SHOULD be opposed. Whoever wrote this seems to think “extremist” means – “a person who opposes giving me free stuff”. Pelosi is an extremist and should be gotten rid of. I recommend market-ticker.org if you want an education on facts and reality.
