On Fox News Sunday Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum weighed in on Susan G. Komen Foundation’s initial decision to cut funding from Planned Parenthood. Santorum told Chris Wallace that he believes an old debunked, false claim that abortion causes breast cancer.
This whole controversy should be focused on breast cancer screening, not abortion but it’s been morphed or deflected onto/into another topic to keep the heat on Planned Parenthood. Only 3% of Planned Parenthood’s services are used for abortion purposes. Komen’s funding was strictly used for breast cancer screening.
Ultra-super-duper Conservative Santorum said, “I don’t believe that breast cancer research is advanced by funding an organization where you’ve seen ties to cancer and abortion. So, I don’t think it’s a particularly healthy way of contributing money to further cause of breast cancer, but that’s for a private organization like Susan B. Komen to make that decision.”
If you recall, Santorum recently stated in opposition to abortion, even in cases of rape, “make the best out of a bad situation.” In addition, a recent article suggests that his wife Karen had to undergo a late term abortion due to life threatening reasons.
