Voter ID laws are not about Fraud, it’s an extreme power grab to eliminate opposing votes

Voter ID laws are applauded by Republicans even though it’s been determined in a study by the Brennan Center For Justice, that as many as 5 million voters will be disenfranchised by Voter ID laws passed in Republican states. If you cannot comprehend the disastrous effects this could have on our voting system, consider the following should be a wake up call as to the true agenda behind this law.

 New York Times reports:

It is no coincidence that so many state legislatures have spent the last year taking the same destructive actions: making it harder for minorities and other groups that support Democrats to vote, obstructing health care reform, weakening environmental regulations and breaking the spines of public- and private-sector unions. All of these efforts are being backed — in some cases, orchestrated — by a little-known conservative organization financed by millions of corporate dollars.

The American Legislative Exchange Council was founded in 1973 by the right-wing activist Paul Weyrich; its big funders include Exxon Mobil, the Olin and Scaife families and foundations tied to Koch Industries. Many of the largest corporations are represented on its board.

(my bold)

Paul Weyrich from Wisconsin founded ALEC and their agenda is extreme.

One example: From Weyrich’s own state, Ruthelle Frank, is also a leading member of her community and now she cannot vote for the first time in her 48 year history of voting.

More examples…..

This is not an isolated case:

A 2005 study by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Employment and Training Institute found an estimated 177,399 Wisconsin residents 65 and older do not have a driver’s license or state photo ID — 23 percent of that population. The study estimated that another 98,247 residents ages 35 through 64 lack IDs. Disparities were especially pronounced among racial minorities.

Disfranchisement (also called disenfranchisement) is the revocation of the right of suffrage (the right to vote) of a person or group of people, or rendering a person’s vote less effective, or ineffective. Disfranchisement may occur explicitly through law, or implicitly by intimidation or by placing unreasonable registration or identification impediments in the path of voters.

There is no entity comparable to ALEC on the left, nor do we want one.  Republicans have stated since Obama was sworn in that they would do anything to the President out of office – and they are trying, even if it besmirch’s America’s status as  a country of freedom. ALEC is a prime example of why we rage. Our votes should count.

Given the above information, it’s no surprise that the majority of voters polled find Republicans too extreme.

The majority of the African American/black vote supported candidate Obama. There isn’t much love from Hispanics for the Republican agenda. The elderly are cast aside as Conservatives maneuver to rid our country of its safety nets. Certainly the same group eradicating all that has been held sacred in America will not support their agenda – so they will nullify their vote by any means necessary.

I doubt these tactics will work in their favor.

Paresh Desal pointed out on Google+, that so far, Republicans have alienated:

School teachers

Fire fighters
Labor unions
African Americans
Mexican Americans
Educated Elites who travel in subways
People on food stamps
Women who need health care
Muslims
Gays and Lesbians
Environmentalists
Evolutionists
Scientists who support Global warming and other ideas.
99% and people who want jobs (Decent or indecent)

“Damn is there anyone left other then 1% that they care about?”
