More Vaginaphobia: GOPer proposes abstinence for married couples

As if the recent birth control issue isn’t radical enough, now it’s been suggested that if married (yes, married) couples want to use contraception, they should practice abstinence. The hysteria created (deflection) has seemingly brought us back to 1950 — unless Republicans are trying to help President Obama win a reelection.

State Rep. Lynne Blankenbeker (R-Concord) has made idiotic statements in the past, but she’s possibly surpassed them all.

Huffpo reports:

– noting that abstinence is available “over the counter” along with condoms — during a legislative committee hearing on a resolution urging the Obama administration to drop the birth control requirement for religious organizations. Blankenbeker was trying to explain her position on why the administration’s requirement to provide insurance coverage for birth control should be overturned.

“People with or without insurance have two affordable choices, one being abstinence and the other being condoms, both of which you can get over the counter,” she said.

“Abstinence works 100 percent of the time,” she said.

Blankenbeker also asserted that condoms and abstinence offer married couples a wider range of family planning options than oral contraceptives.

“If you decide you want to get pregnant you can refrain from abstinence,” she said.

(my bold)

Another what the fuck statement came from Rep. Jeanine Notter (R-Merrimack) who claimed that birth control pills lead to prostate cancer. (Blogger’s Tip: Not using birth control can lead to pregnancy.)

Catholic hospitals and other institutions also support President Obama’s birth control rule. Catholic approval for the President has remained unchanged.  95% of Catholics use contraceptives. What the hell is the problem? These supposed small government GOPers want our government in our vaginas – and that is not an extreme assessment. The Virginia State Legislature just  passed a bill requiring women to have an ultrasound before opting for an abortion.

Slate reports:

“Because the great majority of abortions occur during the first 12 weeks, that means most women will be forced to have a transvaginal procedure, in which a probe is inserted into the vagina, and then moved around until an ultrasound image is produced. Since a proposed amendment to the bill—a provision that would have had the patient consent to this bodily intrusion or allowed the physician to opt not to do the vaginal ultrasound—failed on 64-34 vote, the law provides that women seeking an abortion in Virginia will be forcibly penetrated for no medical reason. I am not the first person to note that under any other set of facts, that would constitute rape under state law.

This is intrusion of the worst kind. Republicans, you are big government. Being gay is frowned upon in their world and now GOP frigidity is dictated to us as the moral compass we should adhere to. Another Blogger’s tip: If you hit it, do it with birth control or you could end up like Bristol Palin, who also preaches abstinence — after giving birth.

Hello 1950.

H/T: Holly Knisley with thanks.

You mean to tell me, truthfully, that all the people supporting this abstinence thing do not have sex? Seriously? Michelle and Obama haven’t had sex in roughly 5 years? Some how I highly doubt that…

These people should try practicing what they’re preaching and see how long they’ll keep preaching this shit for after a couple months…

That’s why they preach it… they haven’t been laid in years

Republicans are insane. Everyone should stop pretending like these are people to be taken seriously.

I’m confused. Does she truly think if a woman takes the birth control pill, the man gets prostate cancer?
    WTF??

Does just have to be the guy you’re sleeping with? Because I was on the pill for almost 3 years before becoming sexually active.

“Abstinence works 100 percent of the time,” she said. If I assume she’s Christian, then no, abstinence didn’t work for Mary.

Now that there was ass-toot observation.

        Rather accurate, I’d say.
