This is ‘special’ (in that extremely desperate kind of way). Right wing sites have thrown Godwin’s Law in our faces, which is delicious, since they have nothing else to go with apparently: “The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.” adding “The slogan “Forward!” reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.” the Washington Times writes with a huge partisan pen. “Barack Obama’s latest campaign slogan “Forward!” also happens to be a Nazi marching tune. Vorwärts! Vorwärts! was a marching song of the Hitler youth”, so states the Gateway Pundit. The Daily Paul and a host of others are running with this strategy (and I use that term loosely).
Just for fun; the title of an article today on FoxBusiness.com is, “Judge Allows Strauss-Kahn Lawsuit to Move Forward.” Those Marxists! There is a website called ‘the Jewish Daily Forward‘. OMFG, Jewish Nazis! Who knew?
This is all quite funny considering the origin of the word, “pundit“: 1670s, “learned Hindu,” especially one versed in Sanskrit lore, from Hindi payndit “a learned man, master, teacher,” from Skt. payndita-s “a learned man, scholar,” of unknown origin. Broader application in Eng. is first recorded 1816.”
Yoda would say, A teacher, they are not at Gateway Pundit. I don’t want to school such an advanced teacher as the ‘pundit’ at Gateway but the definition of the word “forward” is, “toward or at a place, point, or time in advance; onward; ahead: to move forward; from this day forward; to look forward.” Anyone that uses said word, is not a Marxist-Socialist-Commie-Nazi. For example, when soldiers are told to, ‘Forward march!’ they are not told to go straight to Marxist hell.
So, should we then scrutinize the etymology (not that they bothered to peruse the origin of “forward” but just compared it to every evil person that’s ever used it.) of words politicians use, since debating on policies is not in the Republican mindset? That would stink of desperation and we have real issues to bring up over Mitt (R-Bain) Romney’s dubious past in business. By the way, where are those tax returns?
Forward may have meant something else to Republicans who have Marxism on their minds, but nothing is further from the truth with President Obama’s political leanings — now about Romney’s problematic areas (see how deflection didn’t work?):
I can honestly say that the right wing sites fucked up big time, in that fucked up funny special way they do so very much:
“Verbal phrase fuck up “to ruin, spoil, destroy” first attested c.1916. A widespread group of Slavic words (cf. Pol. pierdoli?) can mean both “fornicate” and “make a mistake.” Fuck off attested from 1929; as a command to depart, by 1944. Flying fuck originally meant “have sex on horseback” and is first attested c.1800 in broadside ballad “New Feats of Horsemanship.” For the unkillable urban legend that this word is an acronym of some sort (a fiction traceable on the Internet to 1995 but probably predating that) see here, and also here. Related: Fucked; fucking. Agent noun fucker attested from 1590s in literal sense; by 1893 as a term of abuse (or admiration).”
