After yesterday’s landmark ruling by the Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts — a George W. Bush appointee — was due for dissection by Republicans after upholding ObamaCare’s individual mandate, and he is being sliced and diced. The most outrageous statements thus far, have come to light, some hysterically dramatic, but this one, is ‘special.’ Conservatives are trying to link the side effects of Justice Roberts’ epilepsy medication to his decision. No, really.
On his radio show yesterday, far, far, far (did I mention far?) right-wing host Michael Savage — who has previously called autism a “phony disease” — claimed that Roberts’ epilepsy is the root cause of his “cognitive dissociation” in the Obamacare ruling:
Think Progress reports:
Let’s talk about Roberts. I’m going to tell you something that you’re not going to hear anywhere else, that you must pay attention to. It’s well known that Roberts, unfortunately for him, has suffered from epileptic seizures. Therefore he has been on medication. Therefore neurologists will tell you that medication used for seizure disorders, such as epilepsy, can introduce mental slowing, forgetfulness and other cognitive problems. And if you look at Roberts’ writings you can see the cognitive dissociation in what he is saying.
In lockstep, in ad nauseam, Bryan Fischer followed suit with the same wild eyed Republican assertion. And then, The Drudge Report followed the same desperate conclusion.
I thought — and obviously failed in my thinking– that the SCOTUS is supposed to uphold justice, not bias. I read somewhere that ‘Justice is blind.’
Uhh…I take seizure meds and trust me, nothing will make me vote against my beliefs, which do not envelope the Conservative/Republican party. (cue: Republican readers declaring that seizure meds are the reason I’m an eeevil Socialit, Marxist, Maoist, librul).
