Sen. Scott Brown accused Democratic Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren of not representing victims of asbestos, during the recent debate. Behold, two new Warren for Senate ad to refute Brown’s claims.

The ads feature various people affected by asbestos exposure and have since, lost family members as a result. One lady states, “Elizabeth Warren went all the way to the Supreme Court to try to get more money for asbestos victims and families.”

Adding, “Now Scott Brown is attacking Elizabeth Warren about her work. Scott Brown is not telling the truth. He’s trying to use our suffering to help himself. He outta be ashamed.”

Boston.com reports:

Travelers was fighting to gain permanent immunity from asbestos-related lawsuits by establishing a $500 million trust. The trust would have been divided among current and future victims of asbestos poisoning who had claims against the nation’s largest asbestos manufacturer, Johns-Manville, which had been insured by Travelers before it went bankrupt.

Travelers won most of what it wanted from the Supreme Court, and in doing so Warren helped preserve an element of bankruptcy law that ensured that victims of large-scale corporate malfeasance would have a better chance of getting compensated, even when the responsible companies go bankrupt.

The second video, “Ashamed.”

Actually, she represented the insurance company, who insured the company who used asbestos. She didn’t represent any victims at all – rather, some victims believe that she did represent them because was the public face of their relatively small settlements. She was paid the equivalent of 40 of the victims that she apparently helped. Not a bad gig is you can get it! I’m not a Brown supporter, but the facts in this case are pretty well known here in MA. She was involved in the process of victims being paid, but her real function in the case was to stop the bleeding for Travelers Insurance by putting a preemptive end to any future cases against the company. The real kicker is that she was not, and is not licensed to practice law in MA!!!!!!!!!!
