Fox News Freaks out that Voter Suppression Efforts by ‘True the Vote’ will be Monitored

‘True the Vote’, the Tea Party group of voting ‘observers’ and their founder Catherine Engelbrecht — who is also a Texas Tea Party leader — are intent on policing the polls in November. With Nathan Sproul getting no media attention from Conservative outlets, Engelbrecht’s motives are obvious – you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to decipher their intent. But, it’s beyond the limited intellectual capacity at Fox News. The talkers at Fox do not seem to be capable of comprehending why hawking voters during election day, would be perceived as intimidation, most especially while targeting minorities — with Tea Party support. The issue has become so heated, that a team of international election monitors has been called in. So now, the partisan police will be observed.

Engelbrecht, during an appearance Monday on Fox News claimed that the monitors’ presence was actually intended to prevent and discourage U.S. voters from exercising their rights. The irony meter just blew a gasket.

On True the Vote’s spinoff in Ohio:

The Times article described efforts by the Ohio Voter Integrity Project, a spinoff of True the Vote, to remove more than 2,100 names from voter rolls. Hundreds of them were college students the group tried to strike from the rolls for failure to specify their dorm room numbers. Local election boards declined to remove any of them.

The Ohio group also challenged the rights of eight members of an African American family to vote from an address it identified as a vacant lot outside Cincinnati. But the address was actually the house where the family had lived for nearly three decades. The family suspected race was the group’s motive. The white tea party activist who challenged the family said she had made a mistake and apologized.

True the Vote should police this man if they are truly honorable in their intent: As reported here, Sproul was hired by the Romney campaign for a period of five months that began last November and ended in March. But now there’s evidence that the payments continued, only to a different name.

Or perhaps the founder should police herself since she is under investigation by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) for a possible “criminal conspiracy to deny legitimate voters their constitutional rights.”

At some point, an effort to challenge voter registrations by the thousands without any legitimate basis may be evidence of illegal voter suppression,” Cummings told True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht in a letter on Thursday. “If these efforts are intentional, politically motivated and widespread across multiple states, they could amount to a criminal conspiracy to deny legitimate voters their constitutional rights.”

(my bold)

Policing the polls, if necessary, should be done by a bipartisan group, not the damned Tea Party. The founder is concerned that the monitors are not American. Maybe Catherine would prefer that the polls are monitored by union bosses from the States. You see how that works?

If you are being policed at the polls, turn on your video camera and take names. Intimidation works both ways.

Something is going to have to give eventually. The right-wing media bubble is using fear to cause a rift between their “reality” and the reality that the rest of us share to the point where people tied to their reality will not be able to function in the real world. Or worse, those loosely tethered to ANY reality will behave as if given marching orders to attack “enemies” of the right wing, like Byron Williams, who claimed that he wouldn’t have thought about shooting up the Tides Foundation or the ACLU if Glenn Beck hadn’t “blown his mind” with his show.

If the “True the Vote” folks really believe there is something amiss at the polling place and if they truly believe in upholding the law, there are more appropriate means of making their voices heard. However, since they lack any actual evidence of voter fraud at the polls, they probably know that there is no point in pursuing their allegations with the authorities. Better just to turn on Fox News and turn off their critical thinking.

But what about all the voter fraud that isn’t?

If you get harassed at the polls, perhaps an “accidental elbow jostle” to the face of the offender will allow you to vote in Peace. Just saying……..
