Ouch: Paul Ryan’s challenger for his Congressional seat just launched the first TV ad

Mitt Romney’s veep choice Paul Ryan is campaigning simultaneously to keep his House seat — his opponent Rob Zerban just launched his first TV ad Friday.

The narrator states, “Paul Ryan, his controversial budget for America has been called dangerous, cruel and deeply wrong. The Ryan plan ends Medicare, slashes funding for college loans, and gives millionaires a lavish tax cut.”

Zerban adds, ‘This country is stronger when we invest in the middle class. I will never cut Medicare benefits, ever. I started two successful businesses, creating great-paying jobs. I’m Rob Zerban, and I approve this message, because I believe everybody deserves their shot at the American dream.”

On Rob Zerban’s website:

I decided to run for Congress because Paul Ryan’s plan to destroy Social Security and Medicare is the wrong path for our nation.

Republicans are punishing working families during this recession. Congress needs a new direction and a new plan. I created two successful small businesses and over 45 jobs, so I know what it takes to get this economy moving again. I wrote responsible budgets for my business that didn’t leave my employees behind, and I know I can do a better job.

“Paul Ryan — his controversial budget for America has been called ‘dangerous,’ ‘cruel,’ and ‘deeply wrong,'” the announcer says. “The Ryan plan ends Medicare, slashes funding for college loans, and gives millionaires a lavish tax cut.”

The ad then cuts to Zerban introducing himself: “This country is stronger when we invest in the mid class. will never cut Medicare benefits — ever. I started two successful businesses, creating great-paying jobs. I’m RoIb Zerban, and I approve this message, because I believe everybody deserves their shot at the American dream.”

Somehow, it just feels WRONG to me for Ryan to be campaigning to keep his Congressional seat during his campaign for vice-president — actually ANY politician. Once you throw your hat in the ring, all other bets should be off…. Ryan obviously doesn’t have enough strength in his convictions or confidence in his party to concentrate his campaign and rely on winning the VP slot.
