Paul Ryan visits the Cleveland Browns, Praises an Athlete, but it was the Wrong Guy

Rep. Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate, along with U.S. Sen. Rob Portman and Condoleeza Rice visited the Cleveland Browns practice facility Wednesday after a rally at Baldwin Wallace University. The trio were greeted at the Browns complex by newly approved team owner Jimmy Haslam. Haslam’s brother is Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, a Republican and supporter of the Romney-Ryan ticket.

The Wisconsin Congressman addressed the players, praising Weeden, while recalling that he had watched him play for Oklahoma State, according to a pool report — except Ryan was pointing to McCoy.

Ryan quipped, “You always had your helmet on” in an effort to smooth over the awkward moment.

Condoleeza Rice stepped in:

The Alabama native is a noted Browns fan, and she posed for a photograph with rookie running back Trent Richardson, who attended the University of Alabama.

Rice told the players how she loved watching Browns legend Jim Brown play.

“Football is a game of taking territory,” she said, according to the pool report. “Just keep taking territory. … I’ll be watching Sunday, and good luck.”

Paul Ryan is a big time Packers fan. This isn’t Earth Shattering news, and likely won’t upset any support for Romney in the battleground state, but what the hell, I don’t like Paul Ryan so don’t deny me the luxury of pointing and laughing while highlighting the ideologue’s pretentiousness.
