America, we have a filibuster problem which means, we have a Mitch McConnell problem

After gaining two seats, Senate Democrats will keep their majority and now have 55-45. But, there’s a problem called, Mitch McConnell, whose use of the filibuster by his base is unprecedented. The filibuster requires only 41 votes, and with the Tea Party wave which swept into the House, the word ‘no’ was ubiquitous in Congress. The Senate is another animal entirely, with Democrats leading.

So, we need to work together, as impossible as that sounds, given a Congress with low approval ratings, and high on partisan views.

This is what we’re up against. Huffington Post reported in 2010:

The frequency of filibusters – plus threats to use them – are measured by the number of times the upper chamber votes on cloture. Such votes test the majority’s ability to hold together 60 members to break a filibuster.

In the 110th Congress of 2007-2008, with Republicans in the minority, there were a record 112 cloture votes. In the current session of Congress – the 111th – for all of 2009 and the first two months of 2010 the number already exceeds 40. The most the filibuster has been used when Democrats were in the minority was 58 times in the 106th Congress of 1999-2000.

(my bold)

Back to Mitch McConnell, who is a lost cause which is evident by his past actions, and present ones. Mitch McConnell was one of the Republican leaders who met behind closed doors in 2008 during a covert meeting, to swear an oath not to support anything and everything the newly minted President tries to accomplish.

Harry Reid will have to meet a few Republicans across the aisle in order to stop the abuse of the filibuster, but there are only a few. So, that leaves cutting the head of the problem off, metaphorically speaking of course. I suggest that with activism, we can help to dissuade this abuse.

Mitch McConnell’s websites states, “I welcome your thoughts and concerns and would like to encourage you to share them with me.  To send your comments to me via email, simply use the form below.”

I suggest using the form, promptly. As witnessed during this election cycle, we can accomplish anything. Let’s exercise that power in order to put American in working order again.

Contact McConnell here. Remind him that he’s up for reelection in 2014 and that you have a good memory.

Mitch, when we look back at why nothing has been achieved in this administration, it will not be the Democrats that we hold accountable, it will be you and the Republicans, that’s one reason Mitt is not in office and if you and the Republicans ever want back in the BIG chair then you need to work together with the Democrats.

We are watching your every move.
