Right wing sites freak out over a discount coupon for a women’s health clinic

Two things worth noting happened today, which collide into one another like a runaway train headed straight into 5:00 traffic. The abortion rate is reported by the AP to have dropped the biggest percentage in a decade. The second notable statistic is, “Mississippi had the lowest abortion rate, at 4 per 1,000 women of child-bearing age. The state also had only a couple of abortion providers and has the nation’s highest teen birth rate.”

By all accounts, contraception is playing a role in lowering the numbers.

Some experts cite a government study released earlier this year suggesting that about 60 percent of teenage girls who have sex use the most effective kinds of contraception, including the pill and patch. That’s up from the mid-1990s, when fewer than half were using the best kinds. But again, they also presented us in contrast with Red State mentality, where abortion rates are low, while contraception is demonized — with the birth rate on a steep incline. So, they don’t want women to have access to birth control, but if an unwanted pregnancy occurs, too fucking bad. If you want low abortion rates, then do the math: provide contraception.

On the same day that the statistics were reported, right wing sites are aflutter over a sale. Yes, but this sale is evil because it’s from Planned Parenthood. Apparently.  For the record: The sale is not offered by an ‘abortion clinic’ but they state in the post that, the sale is offered by a “Planned Parenthood abortion clinic.”

Fox Nation, among many other right wing sites are running with the story. Fox Nation provided the wrong link, so I’ll just link to them:

A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in souther [sic] Florida is offering a black Friday discount — including $10 off a visit to the abortion center today.

Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast offered the special, saying, “Visit our West Palm Beach or Kendall Health Center for special after Thanksgiving savings on Friday, November 23rd.”

Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek noticed the Black Friday discount and responded, “Planned Parenthood brings new meaning to the term, “Black Friday,” doesn’t it?”

And then the all too familiar racist comments poured into the site.

pretty soon you won’t have to worry about the black population.  They have aborted all of the black babies – so no more blacks.

I think all black abortions should be free, with a bonus bucket of fried chicken and a cell phone.

it does’nt matter what day it is,… just as long as most abortions are black, THATS the real bargain.

I won’t blog anymore of their comments. You get the idea.

Ladies, if you were in the area and needed a check up, the Kendall Health Center would have given you a few bucks off. But, if you are in Mississippi, you’re out of luck.

I’m sure they love babies, puppies and kittens, but they really do need to grow up.

It is Republican math. PP is 97% low-cost health services and 3% abortion services, but they believe 3% is the majority and should define the organization, not unlike how they ignore the 99% of the country to focus on the bidding of the 1%.

Well that discount is just pure evil. How dare women get a break.
