Newt Gingrich to GOPers, “Stop Negotiating with President Obama,” forgets they don’t negotiate

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is sending a message to his Republican colleagues about the looming ‘fiscal cliff:’ “Get a grip” and simply stop negotiating with President Obama and Democrats. Yes, he’s crazy. Gingrich’s plea is reminiscent of another man who also does not hold an elected office: Grover Norquist. The former House Speaker seems to forget that there is no room for him in the fiscal cliff debate.

During his speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif. Gingrich said in regards to House Republicans, “They are the majority. They’re not the minority.” Gingrich failed to mention the recent election where Obama handily garnered the electorate and popular vote, while Republicans suffered a brutal shellacking. I’m sure this oversight was done in error.

Via the Daily Caller:

“So my number one bit of advice to the congressional Republicans is simple: Back out of of all of this negotiating with Obama. The president is overwhelmingly dominant in the news media. You start setting up the definition of success finding an agreement with Obama, you just gave Obama the ability to say to you, ‘Not good enough,’” Gingrich said.

“There is no fiscal cliff. It’s absolute, total, nonsense,” Gingrich said.

Perhaps there is no scary ‘fiscal cliff.’ What is a reality is that GOP hacksaw they are guiding straight for Social Security, Medicare and other equally necessary programs. Republicans are playing a game of chicken. Obama caved in to Republican demands during his first term and the next four years might play out a tad bit differently. I think most Democrats would rather take a swan dive off of the foreboding cliff, than to go through another debacle such as the one we were forced to endure during the debt ceiling talks. Besides, the Bush tax cuts for the middle class can be corrected next year, meanwhile, Republicans are busy digging their own political graves.

President Obama has the lowest spending record of any recent President. As I’m typing this, I’m distracted by Mitch McConnell on the news, who is typically propagating the all too familiar myth that spending is out of control under President Obama and he’s punishing the ‘job creators’. Newt doesn’t need to concern himself with McConnell negotiating. Mitch McConnell was one of the Republican leaders who met behind closed doors in 2008 during a covert meeting, to swear an oath not to support anything and everything the newly minted President tries to accomplish. Paul Ryan was in attendance as well. When someone says, ‘both sides are the same’ please ask them where our party’s covert meetings are held, where we discuss how to fuck the country up if we don’t get our way. Thanks.

After the Bush-era tax cuts have proven to be a failure, GOPers want to continue down this well worn path. They’re holding the middle class hostage again. And just recently during Mitt Romney’s campaign they had the gall to declare that they are actually champions for the middle class.

As they replay 2012 in their minds over and over again, dissecting the past year in order to find out how everything went horribly wrong, perhaps they’ll finally hit on something substantial: Quit repeating failed history.
