Tea Party Republican Allen West insisted on a recount in St. Lucie County, Florida, but now, for all this clinging to relevance, that has backfired badly. Allen West is now losing by an even wider margin than before – but he still won’t concede. So, for the second time, Democrat Patrick Murphy declared a victory.
The Palm Beach Post reports,”Preliminary numbers released around 2 p.m. by the St. Lucie County board showed Murphy with an even greater lead, with 65,841 votes to West’s 52,704. When those results are added to the final tallies in Martin and Palm Beach counties, Murphy’s lead increased to 0.65 percent.”
That 0.65 percentage is a wider gap from the 0.5 percent necessary to demand a recount.
Pshaw, says West’s campaign!
West still hasn’t conceded, and his team is considering what legal options it has left to pursue. “It’s time for Allen West to do the right thing and concede,” said Murphy’s senior adviser, Eric Johnson.
“As usual, Murphy’s people are full of garbage,” Tim Edson, West’s campaign manager, said. “This is something the secretary of state and governor will have to sort out.”
Sort out what exactly? HOW he lost? I can tell him/them. Floridians don’t want his crazy ass anymore, that’s why.
Do the math and heed the rules. After 12:01 when Murphy supporters were informed that the St. Lucie County Canvassing Board had missed its noon deadline to file results to the state Division of Elections, the win was a sure thing, if you go by laws and all those inconvenient trivialities…
The results from one precinct could not be fully uploaded during the recount, said St. Lucie County Commissioner Tod Mowery, a canvassing board member. Even though the data were manually entered and the rest of the results were sent to state officials, the board could not certify the results because of the problems with the single cartridge.
Under Florida law, the certified unofficial results submitted a week ago Sunday stand when the certified results do not arrive on time. Those results have Murphy, a Democrat, winning by 0.58 percent. A spread of less than 0.50 percent would have triggered an automatic recount.
As suggested here previously, it might be a good time to help Allen; call the guys in the white van, pick him up and get him to a psych evaluation asap.
West’s only option, which isn’t really an option to Sane America is to file what is called an ‘election contest’, which (take notes Allen) can be filed only under several strict conditions: misconduct, fraud, bribery or corruption by an election official; the winner is not eligible for office; illegal votes or rejection of enough legal votes to change or create doubt in the results. West’s legal team declined to say whether an election contest would be filed.
And how could they? Voter suppression was heralded by Republicans. If dissecting Florida’s population down, then aiming to garner only white voters, and leaving the rest at bay, did not work, then imagine the outcome if Voter Suppression laws were not the rage. West would have fared even worse.
Tl;dr: The voters of Florida have spoken.
Update: A petition to Rep. Allen West, to get a psych evaluation. Please help Allen. It is our duty!
