With resounding chants from protesters outside, the Republican-majority Michigan legislature gave the final approval on Tuesday to “right-to-work” restrictions on public sector unions in a state considered a stronghold of organized labor, as protesters chanted in the gallery and thousands rallied outside, according to Reuters.
Some outlets have reported as many as 12,000 protesters attending to protest the divisive bill. Now it heads to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out the odds over whether he will sign it or not. The final vote was 58-52.
The Michigan House passed right-to-work legislation. The bill now heads to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk in his office, in the George W. Romney Building — that building was named after Mitt Romney’s father, who worked with unions instead of against them. Whether you as a reader support right-to-work states or not, is not at issue. The tactics are the issue. Snyder was deceptive and his motives are transparent.
Republicans are the worst losers; if they are defeated, instead of changing their tactics or platform, they erase the opposition. I wonder what Martin Luther King would have to say right now, or Ronald Reagan? How about George Romney.
Governor Snyder, you are the new Scott Walker.
