GOPer seeks to force pregnant rape victims to carry full term so the fetus can be used as “evidence” at trial

Republican legislator Cathryn Brown in New Mexico is seeking to force pregnant rape victims to carry the pregnancy to term, claiming the fetus could be used as “evidence” at trial. The bill states, “Tampering with evidence consists of destroying, changing, hiding, placing or fabricating any physical evidence with intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any person or to throw suspicion of the commission of a crime upon another,” If a rape victim seeks an abortion, the female could be charged with a third-degree felony for “tampering with evidence.

Business Insider reports:

“Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime,” it adds.

And while the bill is unlikely to survive the Democrat-controlled state legislature according to HuffPost, it has enraged activists all the same.

“The bill turns victims of rape and incest into felons and forces them to become incubators of evidence for the state,” ProgressNow New Mexico member Pat Davis told HuffPost. “According to Republican philosophy, victims who are ‘legitimately raped’ will now have to carry the fetus to term in order to prove their case.“

Brown, who brags about being endorsed by Right to Life on her website, has yet to respond to Business Insider’s request for more information about her bill.

Evidence of what exactly? There is already evidence which can be used to prove that a woman is raped.

According to the Huffington Post, it has enraged activists :

“The bill turns victims of rape and incest into felons and forces them to become incubators of evidence for the state,” ProgressNow New Mexico member Pat Davis told HuffPost. “According to Republican philosophy, victims who are ‘legitimately raped’ will now have to carry the fetus to term in order to prove their case.“

A victimized woman being forced to prove again that she is raped by carrying the rapist’s child is the reason we call the GOP, the party of rape. There, I said it.

HOLY SMOKES!! I’m in China and I showed this article to my lady. friend and even SHE shook her head and said this woman is sick. This approaches art in its deft manipulation of the notion of “tampering with evidence” in its bid to make abortions impossible.
    WOW.
    I repeat: WOW.

    Are you effing kidding me??

The Rape is the sexual assault the pregnancy is NOT the rape. Otherwise you could not have been raped if you do not become pregnant. Therefore the “party of rape” comment is nonsense.

    • That guy

No it’s not. The rapist can then come back and sue for rights. Try to keep up. This has been discussed for awhile.

Except if you carry to full term, it’s no longer a fetus…it’s a baby. And now your rapist can sue for parental rights (in 31 states). And now you have to deal with your rapist for the rest of your life.

“Tampering with evidence”, my ass! I’m surprised she doesn’t force pregnant rape victims to marry their rapists, as the Bible clearly demands: “If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and
rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl’s father fifty
shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He
can never divorce her as long as he lives” (Deuteronomy 22:28–29)
