Bullshit Mountain: Fox News seems to be committing suicide while their ratings take a beating

While Fox News is enduring its worst primetime ratings among a key group of viewers since 2001 in January, MSNBC’s are up.  January 2013 marked Fox News Channel’s lowest 25-54 delivery (226,000) in Sales Prime since August 2001.  That’s a 12 year low for anyone is calculating the damage in terms of years.

Politico reports:

And January marked the worst month ever for Fox’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” among the 25-54 demo, as well as the channel’s lowest total viewership in the 10 p.m. hour since July 2008.

At  MSNBC, the cable network saw its ratings go up 11 percent in the 25-54 demo compared to January 2012. And “The Rachel Maddow Show” topped CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” this month, and also ranked number one among the 18-34 demo.

Fox News, meanwhile, had nine of the 10 top programs in January — Maddow’s show was the only non-Fox News program to enter the top 10, in the last slot, as the Huffington Post pointed out.

Rachel Maddow’s ratings are increasing through the past few years, which means, if this sticks, Fox News will have some formidable competition as theirs declines. What’s particularly odd is that Fox News is taking Conservative pundit Erick Erickson under its wing as he departs from CNN. Let’s look at that.

The Atlantic reports:

An apparent sop to liberals upset at his hiring, he submitted to questions about his history of incendiary rhetoric, apologizing in succession for the time he compared an Obama Administration official to a Nazi; the time he asked if President Obama was shagging hookers behind the media’s back, referring to Michelle Obama as a “Marxist Harpy”; the time he called  former Supreme Court Justice David Souter a “goat-fucking child molester” — it was as if CNN’s newest hire was hazed with a scripted scenario written by Jon Stewart for future Daily Show mockery.

As Fox News’ ratings take a dive, instead of hiring a more moderate contributor, they’re taking on another far, far right winger. Jon Stewart recently referred to Fox News as Bullshit Mountain. By hiring Erickson, they are still trying to dish out mountains of crap to their viewers instead of finding a credible host. Or perhaps the network is attempting their exit while going down in flames that emit stinky bullshit fumes. If so, this is one suicide we can endorse.
