An anti-immigrant Tea Party Republican lawmaker in Arizona is pushing a bill which would require high school students to recite an oath even more rigid than the oath the President of the United States is required to make, as a pre-requisite to graduating. First of all, this is not Constitutional. When President Obama recently took the oath, it was his prerogative whether to close it with “so help me God” and he did.
The New Civil Rights Movement reports:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose or evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge these duties; so help me God.”
This is just what ‘Murica needs for our freedom y’all. High school students swearing an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” And then there’s the matter of God. I’m pretty sure this nut’s God and mine are two entirely different entities. They are just kids. For once, can’t kids just be kids?
