Fox News now the least trusted network as ratings plummet and poll numbers take a dive

PPP’s annual poll on TV news found that there’s only one source more Americans trust than distrust: PBS. 52% of voters say they trust PBS to only 29% who don’t trust it. The other seven outlets we polled on are all distrusted by a plurality of  voters. PPP expands on Fox News’ ratings, which have plummeted, “Just like its actual ratings, Fox News has hit a record low in the four years that we’ve been doing this poll. 41% of voters trust it to 46% who do not. To put those numbers into some perspective the first time we did this poll, in 2010, 49% of voters trusted it to 37% who did not.” On a side note: Who are these people that trust Fox News?

FoxNews

“We continue to find that Democrats trust most tv news sources other than Fox, while  Republicans don’t trust anything except Fox,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public  Policy Polling. “News preferences are very polarizing along party lines.”

More Americans identify Fox News as the outlet they trust the least- 39% In contrast, 14% distrust MSNBC, 13% distrust CNN, 12% distrust Comedy Central, 5% for ABC and CBS, 3% for NBC, and 1% for PBS.

As reported here, Fox News is enduring its worst primetime ratings among a key group of viewers since 2001 in January,; MSNBC’s are up.  January 2013 marked Fox News Channel’s lowest 25-54 delivery (226,000) in Sales Prime since August 2001.  That’s a 12 year low for anyone is calculating the damage in terms of years.

Sarah Palin is out. Dick Morris has been shown the door.  Apparently, Americans don’t like piles of shit shoveled into their TV sets anymore.

H/T: Mr. Sweetie, with thanks.

It might also be that Fox’s core viewership (old white folks) is dying, which means they’re losing viewers and seeing those poll numbers plummet. At this rate, they’ll soon have no viewers at all.

I feel so bad about that;-)

I distrust much of the news on Fox as much as anyone else, but I could cherry pick the results from Question 9 in PPPs survey with a big headline espousing how many more Americans trust Fox News. I’ve never heard of Freakoutnation before today, but based on what you did above I would never trust you. Did you lie? No. Did you purposely try to deceive? Yes. Which is exactly what Fox News and MSNBC do.

Q9 Which TV news outlet do you trust the most:
ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Comedy Central,
Fox News, MSNBC, NBC News, or PBS?
    ABC ………………………………………………………. 11%
    CBS ………………………………………………………. 6%
    CNN………………………………………………………. 12%
    Comedy Central………………………………………. 5%
    Fox………………………………………………………… 34%
    MSNBC………………………………………………….. 8%
    NBC………………………………………………………. 5%
    PBS ………………………………………………………. 13%
    Someone else/Not sure ……………………………. 7%

      http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_National_206.pdf

Q5 Do you trust Fox News, or not?:

      Trust it 41%
      Do not trust it 46%
      Not sure 13%

Q12 Would you describe yourself as very liberal,
      somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat:
      conservative, or very conservative?:

      Very liberal 11%
      Somewhat liberal 19%
      Moderate 28%
      Somewhat conservative 25%
      Very conservative 18%

FTA: ” … PBS. 52% of voters say they trust PBS to only 29% who don’t trust it. The other seven outlets we polled on are all distrusted by a plurality of voters. .. ” which clearly states ALL seven are distrusted as well, however, the article focus based on this liberal leaning BLOG and per PPP shows a decline in Fox news vs. past results. Thus factual based on said report. Plus poll data reflect heavy moderate-to-conservative sample vs. liberal, pointing toward conservative dislike of Fox is stronger in this poll vs. past with PBS leading the pack in trust.

Yes, everything you say is true. I did check the whole survey. It was the headline that bothered me so much, and the way they only gave certain stats in the article because they are obviously biased. You know Bill O’Reilly is constantly saying that Fox News is the most trusted news organization. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the annual poll he uses for that statement, conveniently leaving out the part where they are the least trusted.

      That’s ‘distrust’ not trust.

      • Dino Mascolo

        You’re right. Thank you.

      Did you see #10?

Q10 Working from the same list of choices, which
TV news outlet do you trust the least?
      ABC ………………………………………………………. 5%
      CBS ………………………………………………………. 5%
      CNN………………………………………………………. 13%
      Comedy Central………………………………………. 12%
      Fox………………………………………………………… 39%
      MSNBC………………………………………………….. 14%
      NBC………………………………………………………. 3%
      PBS ……………………………………………………….
From the poll: “…Fox News once again wins both honors…” But, to my schadenfreude, is trending down in credibility since touting the ‘Romney landslide’. If you’d lurked a little longer, you might’ve realized what side of the fence you’d landed on (The banner does say ‘opinionated’). Peace.

      • Dino Mascolo

Exactly my point. I could use Q10 to say that more people distrust Fox News. I think it’s safe to say that most people who see this headline won’t bother to check the actual survey. I could be wrong. Thanks for your comment.

Now there’s a surprise. I mean go figure. The network that applauds Ann Coulter for telling the President of the US “Screw You!” is losing people? About d*** time, I;d say!

appeals to the lowest common denominator…like the NY Post. ‘Good at what you do’ doesn’t make you ‘good’.

If you think you are getting “News” from either
CNN OR FOX News, you are sadly mistaken. I’m only interested in watching
either of these networks when I need a good laugh…or a good cry, lol. I
get most of my news online and even THAT has to be fact-checked time and
again. I work late at DISH, so when I watch TV I like it to be an escape
of sorts. I get most of my shows from the ‘big four’ networks, and with
my DISH Hopper DVR it will automatically record every primetime show from these
networks with PrimeTime Anytime. TV should be fun and entertaining, not
sad and biased; PTAT gets me the crime dramas, comedies and more, and when I
watch these recordings the next day I can set AutoHop to automatically skip
commercials. I’m all about relaxing and eliminating drama when I watch my
TV shows, and PTAT does most of the work for me!

Lets hope it stays that way. That POS network has caused America a great deal of damage for failing to report Republican dirty tricks to their viewers. The worst is going to be FNC’s failure to report gerrymandering, I think.

It would be good if MSNBC would back of their OWN one sidedness now…especially Mr Ed, the union shill.
