GOPer, “It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party.”

Well we knew this is what Republicans thought in their minds, but it’s never been verbalized quite so blatantly. South Carolina House member Kris Crawford said in an interview while discussing Medicaid expansion for the uninsured, “It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party.”

According to the Atlantic, Crawford was referring to his support for Medicaid expansion, and now he’s done an about face.

Crawford voted on party lines and shot down a measure which would have granted a three-year expansion of Medicaid for the uninsured — an amendment which would have extended taxpayer-funded health insurance to 500,000 more people. (And you thought the governors had been having trouble on this issue.) Of course, now Crawford is going to have to delicately explain why he said what he said, did what he did, and not try to sound like he’s pandering to racists and politics.

It looks as if Crawford was referencing his Republican colleagues who oppose Medicaid expansion, but then he joined the fray which speaks volumes.

Well shit. It’s true. Obama is black and it garners more popularity if you hate him, that is, if you’re a Republican. It appears as if Crawford is explaining why his Republican colleagues oppose Medicaid expansion, however, he joined them soon afterward.

FYI: Crawford was convicted of tax evasion in November.
