Graphic video: Man fires 37 rounds at a police car, found in his car were books about militias, terrorism

Authorities in Ohio today released a dash-cam video of a man firing on police officers, in rapid fire in what initially was just  a routine traffic stop, which resulted in the man’s death.

Among the items discovered in the shooter’s car, the police found eight, 40-round magazines for the AK-47 along with a number of books and magazines about militias and terrorism.

Police said on Friday that they still do not know why the shooter, 42 year-old James Gilkerson, suddenly jumped out his car and began firing at Middlefield policeofficers in Ohio, who had pulled him over after he had run a stop sign. However, the items found in the shooter’s car, might have been his motive for resisting (my opinion, not the police department’s).

The incident occurred in March however, this graphic footage was just released showing the bizarre moment — which is at about the 1.57 mark — when the shooter cracked his car door only to begin blasting 37 shots at the squad car.

The officers returned fire and killed Gilkerson.

reports, “Police showed the dash cam video of the shootout during a news conference. They also distributed a statement from the Lake County prosecutor saying the shooting by police was justified and the matter would not be taken to a grand jury.”

Well, I’m sure he was just armed to the teeth in order to resist tyranny, or something…

    • That guy

      Those tyrannies are scary though.

      • Diana Tedone

  • Sally

I’m sure this was just another liberal tryig to make the NRA look bad..probably Obama paid him to die, don’t you think?

    • Donald Wolc Jr

What about if he is a NRA member and is a republican that like to shoot police.

      • Cheryl Moeller-Liniman

Republicans only like police when they use them to pepper spray and arrest and silence protesters of their idiotic policies.

        • Darren Paul Archambault

No way republicans would NEVER do that…… ever……never….. [/sarcasm]

      • Jonathan J. Case

        Ill bet you he’s not.
Check the history,,all the shooters were”democrat liberal, all the bombers were mooselimbs”.

          • Anomaly 100

He’s commented here before. Same type of thing.

        • Darren Paul Archambault

that dude has probably never seen a voting booth…HEY!.. MR. DON”T TREAD ON ME,..JONATHAN HEAD CASE…go home to your momma…

        • Kieth Brackett

VA Tech shooter Cho was a Korean citizen and not allowed to vote, Ft Hood and Aurora CO shooters were residents of VA which does not require party registration to vote, Nancy Lanza was a prepper in a solidly Republican area which doesn’t prove, but rather indicates either Republican or Libertarian affiliation, the Aurora shooter also volunteered briefly on the Romney campaign, at least one of the parents of the Columbine shooters were Republican which also does not prove what the shooters themselves would have been but likely Libertarian, need I go on or will you just repeat concocted drivel?

          • Kevin McQuain

You could have mentioned Timothy McVay (McVeigh?). He is/was a fundamentalist christian which is pretty much the republican base and he blew up a government building in OK. Domestic terrorism in this country is far more prevalent than either the NRA or Republican party care to admit.

    • doug daluga

Yup, just another “false flag” operation by the CIA. 😉

    • jdkinpa

Sally did you forget your sarcasm emoticon. Here use mine, :s). At least I hope that was sarcasm.

        • Swift2

Well, if so, this foreigner was from England…

      • Judi Briggs

Oh, you don’t want “Them” to come into our country? So you aren’t just pro-choice, you want to stop ALL babies from being born?

      • Swift2

This guy isn’t a foreigner. And the enemy, Diana, is within.

      • Nicholas Luis Sevilla Zamoyski

        That was an American Citizen.

      • Chris Carr

Way to type with zero cogency. Impressive.

      • Tom Yarnes

trying hard to decode your stupidity…I think what you are saying is…” I AM A COWARD, AND I WILL LAY BLANKET ACCUSATIONS BECAUSE I AM UNEDUCATED AND DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO FILTER AND PROCESS WHAT I SEE AND HEAR”. I suggest you go home.. lock the door and never come outside again. THEY THEY THEM…THEY…… smh..YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR US>>>US >>>>US….Republicans are one huge problem on the right.. YOU are the other problem on the left. YOU, are as much a problem as the Republicans…. and do not speak on behalf of THIS Democrat. YOU are a maniac…

        • Thorpe Saxton

Where did you get, out of that, that she’s a Dem? Or even on the left?

        • Rusty Boersma

She sounds like a typical bagger to me.

      • jon doe

        congratulations, you are an idiot

      • Plake

What on earth are you even talking about? This was no immigrant – this was a homegrown boy who attempted to murder a couple of policemen. This country’s demise is coming from within itself – no foreign invaders, immigrants or other boogeymen populating your rather fevered imagination are going to take us down. We’ll do that all by our selves.

      • Indie Green

Excuse me. This man appears to have been a white, middle aged Ohio citizen. Nothing ‘illegal alien’ about him.

      • George_W_Obama

      • Lärry Westerberg

Are you talking about your family?

      • Kevin McQuain

Frankly, with the attitude you display, the total ignorance of the events in the video and your automatic supposition that “they” are responsible, indicating some form of immigrant (forgetting that no one in this country was invited here by the indigenous peoples, against whom we promptly initiated genocide), YOU are the problem. Your willful ignorance, obvious belief in the NRAs, Fox News and Republican message is the clearest indicator of just how bad a shape this country really is in. You’re the maniac because you’re too stupid or willfully ignorant to learn and acknowledge the real source of these problems. And, yes, people around the world hate the US. Mostly because of 100 years of interference in their internal issues exacerbated by Bush’s illegal wars and invasion of a sovereign nation w/o ONE SHRED of evidence that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11.

        • Maria Purcell

I agree with you on there’s no evidence that Iraq was involved in the 9/11 attacks in fact if you watch the videos really carefully you can see that the towers blew from the bottom……the planes were just a distraction from what was really going on…..I did a report on the attacks in high school and examined every single article that I referenced in it.

  • Terri Collier Hamrick

And there are lots more crazies out there just like him!

    • Dennis Smith

just about 47% of us are just like him

  • Randall E. Winn

Sick Man + Hate Talk + Easy Access To Guns = Suicide By Cop.

You don’t think the NRA’s leadership or the Fox pundits are going to do anything to get THEMSELVES shot do you? Heck no, that’s what their fans are for.

    • Judi Briggs

You took some of the words right out of my keyboard.

  • Judi Briggs

    suicide by cop.

  • Swift2

He did it… because FREEDOM! For the questioner, I believe the sound would have been taken out by the court. Could be it’s just gossip, personal, whatever. Maybe to make it public, they had to suppress sound, but the jury heard it all. They got a tip, maybe. Somebody told them to watch out for this car, and they saw it go by. Look, the officers would have testified in hearings or something.

    • Lärry Westerberg

He only ran a stop sign, or did you miss that?

  • Glenn Murphy

If you really think the latest bills that were voted down would have stopped this, your all crazy!

    • Tom Yarnes

I think the drunk driving laws, even though there are plenty of stupid asses still driving drunk and killing people,…. still saves lives… so to your point Mr. Murphy.. yes… the possibility exist… and even if it is a remote possibility. Or maybe we should just not have laws and have no accountability… because people are going to do stupid shit anyway…dude.. you are not crazy…your suffering from association separation syndrome…

      • [email protected]

Good point Tom. I’ve heard Mr Murphy’s argument many times. I find it coming out of the mouths of people who seem to lack educational maturity or curiosity and the intellectual power of reason. There seems to be an epidemic of distorted mental instability, pathological indifference and ignorance spreading across this country.

  • mikelt

First I’ve heard of this incident. If it had been a Muslim, it would be all over the news. So much for the “liberal media”.

    • Kevin McQuain

If by that you mean that the “liberal media” doesn’t seek out these incidents to exemplify it’s “lies”, then I agree. Certainly faux News doesn’t like to report this stuff because it flies in the face of their lies and distortions. I followed a pickup truck today with a sticker that said: “I don’t believe the liberal media.” Makes me wish I had a sticker that says: “but that’s because I’m stupid.”

  • ‘Jesse Banke

This is what a fucked system where BOTH SIDES of the system are playing people to hate their fellow countryman. Simpletons are believing EVERYTHING they hear and see on TV, internet and other media. Shooting up cops is not going to solve any sort of tyranny. If this guy wanted to work against tyranny, he should have put his efforts toward political monitoring and getting involved in his local politics. This is just stupidity at its worst. What a fruit ball. More and more cases like this will continue to emerge as the country is forced to be divided.

  • Squirtman Squirtman

whats crazy is he has my name and im almost same age as him im only 2yrs younger and live in ohio too the difference is the only gun i own is a squirtgun and wont b killing anyone

  • Richard

Hey Lora before you start on an another Liberal NRA Bashing Tyrade:

The problem here is the complete dissociation of the NRA as an entity
and its membership base. As someone who participated wholeheartedly in
the Occupy movement and in the national campaign to expose ALEC – the
group of Right-wing politicians and corporate lobbyists who write laws
together – I have no love for the influence of money on politics. But by
making this narrative the dominant one, the Democratic left has missed a
very, very important fact: the power of the NRA lies not in
    corporations, but in its membership.

The NRA definitely receives some contributions from the firearms
manufacturers whose interests are tied up with their own. Of course
they do. That’s how lobbying works: you pay people to take the time to
represent your interests well to lawmakers, whether you’re a gunmaker
contributing to the NRA or a high school teacher’s union paying The
    American Federation of Teachers lobbyists.

What you’re missing is that the vast portion of the NRA’s funds come not through corporate donors, but through contributions from average Americans. It was not a coincidence that between December 2012 and January 2013 the NRA grew 10,000 members every day,
adding a full quarter-million new contributors to their roster since
gun control reappeared in the national discussion last year. That’s
just what happens when a populace that cares a lot about something gets
mobilized. But the NRA – by which the Democratic party should
mean “the American citizens who comprise the NRA because they believe in
gun rights” – has consistently been characterized as the heartless,
    monolithic boogeyman.

  • david265

We need to pass laws that make a 100 round magazine legal. 37 shots and that guy couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

  • Ken Johnson

They didn’t have to kill him. They could have winged him! Signed: The typical family member of an idiot who gets shot after he does something like this….

  • William Fike

You only know half of the story people when 8 out of 12 people were on some mind altering pharmaceutical drug that caused young people to old people to want to kill people at schools and colleges and where ever. That never gets brought up because that would hurt big business. They make Billions and Billions and don’t care of the out come….They blame it on the guns, bull

  • Nina Bartoletta

NO sympathy for this wacko, either. They are vermin, evil vermin. The cops had every right to defend themselves!

  • michael schoenauer

Bad is bad folks. Some might want to quit sugar coating. Citizen, non citizen, does not matter where he / she is from, religion, political view or other wise. I mean really, who cares if he is home grown or not? Who cares what color he / she is. Only thing that matters is that he / she is DEAD and cant kill anyone or have a chance to in the future. I applaud the Police Officers.

30 rounds and he ended up dead regardless. High cap mag’s didn’t work out for him / her it seems. Kind of blows holes in that theory.

This is a perfect reason why we as in law abiding citizens (whom choose to be armed) can protect our selfs and our neighbors from that or at least have the chance to.

  • JWH

late March 2013, 17 year old De’Marquis Elkins shot and killed a 13 month old
baby who was sitting in a stroller. Elkins shot the infant in the face after the mother refused to give him money. He also shot the mother in the leg and the neck in Brunswick , GA.
De’Marquis Elkins is not a member of the NRA.

He did not use an assault rifle.

He did not get his stolen pistol from a gun show.

    His favorite music is rap.

He did not attend Christian school, nor was he home schooled.

He did attend multicultural public education, and was not instructed in the Ten

His Momma was on welfare, got food stamps, and lived in public housing.

His daddy was not around, and his two brothers have a different daddy.

He already has a record for violent crimes.

    He is gang member.

His mom, grandma, and Aunty all voted for Obama.

He never earned his hunter safety card, nor did he shoot CMP, Junior NRA, or 4H
    Air Rifle Competitions.

He was never instructed in gun safety from his father or grandfather.

His public education and family taught him that the white man owes him

    He went to collect it.

He has no plans on getting married, but does have a Baby Momma, and no, he is
    not supporting her baby.

    He smokes dope.

    He does respect Kayne West.

While he has no job, nor is looking for one, he is well fed.

He has no skills outside of crime.

He speaks Ebonics, and is not capable of doing a professional interview, even
though he spent 11 years in public education.

    He is one of millions.

This is what we are up against. Make no mistake that people like Elkins
will have their guns. There are people wanting to deny you the right to
arm yourself. Your tax dollars are paying for the continuation of a
system that breeds pieces of shit like this one.

    • mattdl

What a racist, hate filled mind you have. You are the problem and like the nut case that fired on the police officer, you should not be trusted with a firearm.

      • JWH

Sorry you can’t handle the truth. I don’t hate anybody just showing the facts.

  • Kevin McQuain

Well, how’s that for a quiet Ohio afternoon. Mr. Muslim extremist, oops, I guess Gilkerson ain’t exactly Muslim is it? Nope, much more Christian conservative republican tea bag NRAer who believed that Obama was personally coming to take his AK from him. Looks like they’ll by prying it from his ‘cold, dead hands.’ Haven’t seen this on Fox, or Limbaugh or any of the other lying POSs who’d have you believe that this behavior is OK because….well, really, none of their arguments make any rational sense, otherwise, this wouldn’t happen.
