Hosts at Fox News — and their Washington managing editor and vice President for the network — and Republicans have touted the Patriot Act as if it’s the best thing since sliced bread while dismissing the cries from liberals and Constitutionalists. In fact, the same breaking story of the NSA monitoring emails sent abroad was done in 2006, so it’s not so ‘breaking.’ In 2006, the National Security Agency was secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth.
Now that Obama is in office, I suppose in the Republican mindset, a black man is not supposed to obtain the power his predecessor had, so they’re just slinging mud to besmirch the President for an Act they actually touted. Personally, I’d prefer that no one ever have such power. Power begets power. Even in 2009, the Patriot Act was vital for America to fight off terrorism, according to Fox News.
Even the author of the Patriot Act is now declaring that using the Act he penned is un-American.
Watch Lamar Smith (R-Texas) on Fox News discussing the vital importance of the Patriot Act:
Senator Sessions (R-KKK) posted this video.
Fox anchor Trace Gallagher and Bill Sammon — the Fox News Washington managing editor and a vice president for the network and master shit stirrer — discuss the importance of the Patriot Act Reauthorization.
This video is well worth your time. A debate over the NSA’s phone call surveillance program, which aired on the May 12, 2006 NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
GOP, your hypocrisy is showing.
