Millionaire Fox host says the shutdown is an opportunity to ‘punish’ federal workers for ‘living on our backs’

October 3, 2013

Fox Business host Stuart Varney chimed in on the government shutdown crisis, saying that he believes it offers an opportunity to “punish” federal workers for “living on our backs.” Yes, a multimillionaire  Fox host said that. It’s like a two for two kind of deal for a Fox Host. He gets to punish hard workers, while watching the government suffer, which subsequently harms poorer Americans. Oh wait, that’s three. He’s in luck.

During an interview, Varney was asked about the government shutdown and its effect on workers and the economy.

One of the hosts asked Varney, “Do you think that federal workers, when this ends, are deserving of their back pay or not?”

Varney responded, “That is a loaded question isn’t it? You want my opinion? This is President Obama’s shutdown. He is responsible for shutting this thing down; he’s taken an entirely political decision here. No, I don’t think they should get their back pay, frankly, I really don’t. I’m sick and tired of a massive, bloated federal bureaucracy living on our backs, and taking money out of us, a lot more money than most of us earn in the private sector, then getting a furlough, and then getting their money back at the end of it. Sorry, I’m not for that. I want to punish these people. Sorry to say that, but that’s what I want to do.”

Co-host Amy Jacobson said, “But it’s not their fault. It’s not the federal employees’ fault. I mean, that’s what I’m sick of, I hate and it makes me anxious, to see people who are victimized because of a political fight.”

Varney responded, “I take your point Amy, it is not directly their fault, but I’m looking at the big picture here. I’m getting screwed. Here I am, a private citizen, paying an inordinate amount of money in tax. I’ve got a slow economy because it’s all government, all the time. And these people are living on our backs, regulating us, telling us what to do, taxing us, taking our money, and living large. This is my chance to say “hey, I’m fed up with this and I don’t miss you when you’re on furlough.” Sorry if that’s a harsh tone, but that’s the way I feel.”

I wonder years ago, when he went to collage, if he got a student loan, did he get a FHA mortgage? when he travels, does he rely on the Air Traffic Controllers to get him there safe? Does he have a passport? Did he go through customs? Oh hell I better get off his back….

I think Varney needs to take his ass back to the UK if he is so unsatisfied with the US. Get out. Go Home. Take your stinking family with you. We neither need or want you here. Go.

Excuse me but I’m a Federal Employee making around $22,000 a year. Can I afford to miss even 1 paycheck NO I can’t. Don’t think because you are a “Federal Employee” your making a lot of money or rich. How dare you act like we aren’t everyday people just trying to make it. Most of my colleagues work 2 if not 3 jobs just to get by living paycheck to paycheck. To get the backpay you have to meet very strict criteria that only a small portion of Fed Employees meet. We the Census Bureau wont meet it. I am a hard worker that just wants to go to work and get paid. What is wrong with that? I was out of work for almost a 1 yr before finding work with the Census. I was told by several jobs I was over qualified for the job and turned down. I have no degree just experience so how am I over qualified. I have been trying to find a 2nd job to help thru all the furloughs we have already been trying to live thru. We have been furloughed since Sept 21. This just sickens me. How dare you act like this to innocent people just trying to make a living?

Ummmm, exxcuse me, but do you get paid when you don’t work, for whatever reason, other than sick pay or vacation time? What makes federal employees so special they should get back pay when they go back to work.

    • tiredoftea

They should be entitled to their back pay when this stupid situation is over simply because they are being denied the opportunity to work by extreme right wing fucks who had no reason to shut down the federal government!

What part of that is difficult for you?

I am burning my Republican registration and abandoning the sorry party. Democrats don’t have the answer. will be waiting or working on a viable third rail.
I see guys like Varney and I hear slogans like “war is peace” “austerity is prosperity”
