Sen. John McCain to Fox host: Let’s have a little straight talk. The shutdown is the GOP’s fault

October 11, 2013

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) opened a can of maverick on Friday during an appearance on Fox News, repeatedly reminding the host that the government shutdown was brought about by the GOP-led effort to halt the Affordable Care Act.

Anchor Martha MacCallum asked McCain about the White House’s handling of the suspension of death benefits to military families. The Arizona Senator explained that while the Obama administration deserves blame, it was however, a GOP-induced shutdown that caused the problem in the first place.

He said, “Let’s have a little straight talk, Martha. [The administration] wouldn’t have had the opportunity to handle it that way if we had not shut down the government on a fool’s errand that we were not going to accomplish. The whole premise of shutting down the government was the repeal of Obamacare. I fought against Obamacare harder than any of the people who wanted to shut down the government.”

TPM reports, “McCain’s appearance on Fox came shortly after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), the leader of the movement to defund the health care law, spoke at the Values Voter Summit.”

The interview closed with McCain rattling off a number of proposals that are “achievable” for Republicans.

“Defunding Obamacare is not one of them,” he said emphatically.

“Well, we’ll see,” MacCallum said, prompting sarcastic laughter from the senator.

“I guarantee it,” McCain said. “Not only will you see, I guarantee it.”

MacCallum is grasping at the notion that defunding Obamacare is within reach. It’s not going to happen.

Let me explain stuff to you. First off, you are not banned for incorrectly calling us pussies while you’re acting like a little pussy, but it’s because you can’t spell. I held *your other comment back too.

Don’t come back here. You’re welcome!

Agreed. “Please go read the Affordable Health Care Act.. the bill is on the internet, for all to read…” Republicans know that no one reads anything about anything so they can say whatever they want to say about the Obama care in order to blame the President and win what they have legally lost.
With the Government shut-down they went a little too far, people who have never pay attention or cared about being informed are starting to figure out their lies, and this will certainly hurt them on the elections.

Like *all* cowardly Republicans – the only time they can tell the truth is when it doesn’t cost them anything. Grampy can tell the truth now – when 78% of Americans are saying the same thing. #FAIL

Actually, it will also hurt the effort to have real, single-payer national health care instead of something that was written by the health insurance industry for the health insurance industry. The person who went on to be a lead lobbyist for AHIP and was then on **Democratic** Sen. Max Baucus’ staff took the lead in writing Obamacare, therefore the GOP does NOT “own the insurance companies.”

And, while website visit numbers are part of the “crashing” problem, no, the main reason is crappy software that wasn’t tested in advance.

So, please do some additional research yourself.

“Fair and Balanced” is one of the most ridiculous slogans in America. It’s not even fair and balanced now between the right and hard right.
