Millionaire Fox host says the shutdown is an opportunity to ‘punish’ federal workers for ‘living on our backs’

Fox Business host Stuart Varney chimed in on the government shutdown crisis, saying that he believes it offers an opportunity to “punish” federal workers for “living on our backs.” Yes, a multimillionaire  Fox host said that. It’s like a two for two kind of deal for a Fox Host. He gets to punish hard workers, while watching the government suffer, which subsequently harms poorer Americans. Oh wait, that’s three. He’s in luck.

During an interview, Varney was asked about the government shutdown and its effect on workers and the economy.

One of the hosts asked Varney, “Do you think that federal workers, when this ends, are deserving of their back pay or not?”

Varney responded, “That is a loaded question isn’t it? You want my opinion? This is President Obama’s shutdown. He is responsible for shutting this thing down; he’s taken an entirely political decision here. No, I don’t think they should get their back pay, frankly, I really don’t. I’m sick and tired of a massive, bloated federal bureaucracy living on our backs, and taking money out of us, a lot more money than most of us earn in the private sector, then getting a furlough, and then getting their money back at the end of it. Sorry, I’m not for that. I want to punish these people. Sorry to say that, but that’s what I want to do.”

Co-host Amy Jacobson said, “But it’s not their fault. It’s not the federal employees’ fault. I mean, that’s what I’m sick of, I hate and it makes me anxious, to see people who are victimized because of a political fight.”

Varney responded, “I take your point Amy, it is not directly their fault, but I’m looking at the big picture here. I’m getting screwed. Here I am, a private citizen, paying an inordinate amount of money in tax. I’ve got a slow economy because it’s all government, all the time. And these people are living on our backs, regulating us, telling us what to do, taxing us, taking our money, and living large. This is my chance to say “hey, I’m fed up with this and I don’t miss you when you’re on furlough.” Sorry if that’s a harsh tone, but that’s the way I feel.”

By the way, Varney is worth an estimated $10 million. Federal workers are keeping him down!

  • Diane Goldman

    Really an elitist POS.

  • mrsgunka

Used to think you had to be smart to get a good paying job and make lots of money. Wrong! You can be a dumb as a rock and be a politician or work for FOX and you can be a millionaire! The politicians causing this shut down need to lose their pay and not get it back when this fiasco is over and not be able to run for office again if they can’t do the job they were sent to DC to do…pay the damn bills!

    • disqus_kio14ieIhs

Yep. If we as citizens couldn’t do our job, we would be fired!

  • mea_mark

If we start be-heading people, I say put him near the front of the line.

    • BanditBasheert

  • John

This guy is no expert…he’s an A$$ wipe and scum as is the rest of the GOP. They have some nerve suggesting it is even Obama’s fault for shutting down the government. I’m so tired of these idiots who blame others for their actions. GET THEM ALL OUT IN 2014 & 2016. Republican party is done with for good.

  • Guest

To the guillotine with you; you pernicious, pompous, parasitic Tea Taliban Troglodyte snob.

Stuart Varney is a pig and actually lower than snake sh.t. His supercilious snobbish I’m just so great attitude and his phony accent are enough to make real people vomit. He should be paying 90% in taxes just for being allowed to stay in this country.

    • BanditBasheert

so what you are saying is that he is a perfect representative of the RepubliKKKan douchebags?

  • Ah_Clem

This is the kind of person that deserves an acetone enema..

    • BanditBasheert

  • stephen ramsden

    Dear Stu Varney,

    F’k you.

    Signed,
    Everyone

    • BanditBasheert

I must admit .. I like the way you think.

  • wont

Of course the Republicans aren’t acting in anyway political. Pure BS. And as for the federal workers being on our backs, I suppose they are also on themselves. They pay taxes too. Jerk.

    • William A Finch

I hope this man is singled out for an audit. And they go back for at least ten years. What a complete twat. Living on their backs? I think we’ve truly found the knuckle dragging missing link in this moron. Is there any way we can just dissolve the republican party? I bet you pay far more taxes than he does!

  • rick dalton

There no one on Fix news that has any loving brain cells they are dead from the neck up. Wonder how this bastard going to like eating out of soup lines when the tea party put this nation into a depression and their money goes to pennies on the dollar that if any country in the world would take it

  • sheri armstrong

Of course he feels that way… All closed minded people only see one side of the story. There are some of us who happen to be federal employees who save and protect lives everyday yet we only make a small fraction of his pay. We have families and responsibilities just like everyone else. We are hard working individuals who take pride in our jobs. We are even still coming to work and keeping everyone safe despite the fact that we don’t know if we will be paid or not. I doubt Mr. Varney would do the same…

  • Phlye Guy

Any relation to Jim? As in his lobotomized older brother? Nawww…that still wouldn’t excuse him.

  • Snexas

Varney doesn’t understand people who need to live off their paychecks because he lives off the fear of old white guys.

  • Kim Randolph

    He disgusts me.

  • Kenny

He can carry his sorry ass back to the UK!

  • Ed Shafer

This guy is smoking some bad weed.

  • Darque Wing

    Okay, so let’s review…

    The shutdown is Obama’s fault.
    The shutdown is good.

I think someone slipped something into Varney’s Ensure.

  • Curt A

I am burning my Republican registration and abandoning the sorry party. Democrats don’t have the answer. will be waiting or working on a viable third rail.
I see guys like Varney and I hear slogans like “war is peace” “austerity is prosperity”

  • Curt A

War is peace, austerity is prosperity,

  • Connie Lee

Ummmm, exxcuse me, but do you get paid when you don’t work, for whatever reason, other than sick pay or vacation time? What makes federal employees so special they should get back pay when they go back to work.

    • Guest

Excuse but I am a Federal Employee making $22,000 a year. Can I miss missing even 1 paycheck NO I can not. Don’t think because you are a “Federal Employee” your making a lot of money. How dare you act like we aren’t everyday people just trying to make it. Most of my colleagues work 2 if not 3 jobs just to get by. To get the backpay you have to meet very strict criteria that only a small portion of Fed Employees meet. I am a hard worker that just wants to go to work and get paid. What is wrong with that? I was out of work for almost a 1 yr before finding work with the Census. I have been trying to find a 2nd job to help thru all the furloughs we have already been trying to live thru. We have been furloughed since Sept 21. This just sickens me. How dare you act like this to innocent people just trying to make a living?

    • tiredoftea

They should be entitled to their back pay when this stupid situation is over simply because they are being denied the opportunity to work by extreme right wing fucks who had no reason to shut down the federal government!

What part of that is difficult for you?

  • Megan Condry

Excuse me but I’m a Federal Employee making around $22,000 a year. Can I afford to miss even 1 paycheck NO I can’t. Don’t think because you are a “Federal Employee” your making a lot of money or rich. How dare you act like we aren’t everyday people just trying to make it. Most of my colleagues work 2 if not 3 jobs just to get by living paycheck to paycheck. To get the backpay you have to meet very strict criteria that only a small portion of Fed Employees meet. We the Census Bureau wont meet it. I am a hard worker that just wants to go to work and get paid. What is wrong with that? I was out of work for almost a 1 yr before finding work with the Census. I was told by several jobs I was over qualified for the job and turned down. I have no degree just experience so how am I over qualified. I have been trying to find a 2nd job to help thru all the furloughs we have already been trying to live thru. We have been furloughed since Sept 21. This just sickens me. How dare you act like this to innocent people just trying to make a living?

  • CappyM

    what a lowlife

  • Kathleen Carter

If I am not to be payd when I return to work. Then I have a great idea!! YOU COME PAY MY BILLS AND GIVE ME ENOUGH MONEY TO SURVIVE!!! There how’s that? You have millions, right? well then come pay my bills and I will gladly not accept a paycheck when I return to work!!

  • Rae A Osborne

I think Varney needs to take his ass back to the UK if he is so unsatisfied with the US. Get out. Go Home. Take your stinking family with you. We neither need or want you here. Go.

    • Matt Kovach

in his home country he would pay more in taxes

      • Pissed Off Fed

And his taxes would support UK’s universal health system. He would sure be disgusted to support the “leeches” that use it.

  • PK

    Speechless!!!!!! What arrogance!!
I wonder years ago, when he went to collage, if he got a student loan, did he get a FHA mortgage? when he travels, does he rely on the Air Traffic Controllers to get him there safe? Does he have a passport? Did he go through customs? Oh hell I better get off his back….

  • PK

by the way I know why you hate Federal employees, they through your ass out of this country over 200 years ago

  • Tony Ol

It is quite apparent the only Federal Employees he knows that are able to be “Living Large” are those same employees making $174,000 per year…for doing NOTHING. Much like him.
