Chicago GOP hopeful: Autism and dementia are God’s punishments for gay rights and abortion

One of the two Republicans vying to challenge Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) for her seat representing the 9th District of Illinois explained to the Chicago Daily Herald that God is “angry” with the United States and has sent scourges to punish America, just because. She also claims that fighting for the middle class means ridding the nation of the stock indexes including the S&P, Dow Jones and Nasdaq in order to improve the nation’s fiscal troubles.

Susanne Athanus said, “I’m upset with us having no economy for the 99 percent. The middle class has been robbed.”

Raw Story reports, “Candidate Susanne Atanus believes that autism and forms of dementia are punishments sent by God because of the growing support for marriage equality in the country and the prevalence of abortion.

Atunus said, “I am a conservative Republican and I believe in God first.”

She told the Daily Herald that God controls the weather and tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth as punishment for gay rights and legalized abortions.

Atunus went on to say, “God is angry. We are provoking him with abortions and same-sex marriage and civil unions. Same-sex activity is going to increase AIDS. If it’s in our military it will weaken our military. We need to respect God.”

The other candidate, David Earl Williams III, has his own set of issues. A former girlfriend filed a domestic violence protection order against the Navy veteran.

LMAO! Wow, we have a former Ron Paul supporter who beats women, and then a clown whose religious hallucinations are her determining factors on what the ills of our country are. And both are part of the RWNJ party, go figure.

    • TED STEVENS

you probably should not post such a comment as that isn’t the reason why the domestic charged was filed. You could get sued for slander. his former gf lives 1000s a miles away in DC as he lives in Chicago.

    o_O
I’d almost say, “Mom, is that you?” But she votes Democrat (like a good union worker’s wife).

  • infectious_d

i can’t really measure this lady’s insanity level…more like i won’t bother(he intelligence level was evident when she opened her mouth and expected “the best”…)…gonna go for the low blow and ask: “well then what the hell’s your excuse?!”, aside from the fact that her view is asinine, she seems to be forgeting that humans poison themselves constantly, with medications, alcohol, drugs, heavily processed materials n’ everything else possible(whether intentional or otherwise), no can’t be those things at all…it’s just god’s punishment…couldn’t be anything else, but that…dingus

Does Koch Industries have an idiot production plant out in Kansas or something? Forgive me for being totally superficial here but what’s with that part in her hair? I was under the impression that lobotomies no longer left scars.

    • mea_mark

Well obviously they had to take out a really big piece to leave a scar like that.

      • http://nomadicpolitics.blogspot.com/ Nomad

        That’s it.. there’s nothing left!

  • http://nomadicpolitics.blogspot.com/ Nomad

    Holy crap,.look at this.

Susanne Atanus worked for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and had trouble getting along with others. She ordered co-workers around, argued with supervisors in meetings and acted disrespectfully during a lecture. Atanus received several “letters of instruction” explaining that her behavior was unacceptable in the workplace.
Then a new supervisor arrived on the scene. The supervisor is black, and Atanus is white. Atanus continued to receive warnings and even got into shouting matches that ended with management’s threats to call federal protective officers if she wouldn’t stop. GSA informed Atanus that she would be suspended for 10 days because of her behavior. That’s when Atanus announced she was the smartest person in the building.
She also filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination based on age, race and religion. GSA came to court armed with workplace rules, copies of the warnings, notes on her behavior and evidence that she had not been singled out for anything other than disruptive behavior. The court dismissed the case, and Atanus appealed.
The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the dismissal. It said there was no evidence of discrimination, but plenty of evidence that the discipline was fair. (Atanus v. Perry, No. 07-1430, 7th Cir., 2008)

I typically try to be at least civil, but idiots like this make me want to say, “f*&K off” and mean it.

    #Winning!

  • Scorpie

After I got over the OMG reaction, my first thought was that Jan should have no problem being re-elected.

  • Thurlow Weed

She is clearly not qualified to represent citizens in government. But, I wanted to check comments for this story to see whether any went straight to irrelevant details or degrading suggestions referring to the candidate’s gender, appearance or marital status, and of course there was one.

    • http://nomadicpolitics.blogspot.com/ Nomad

I did.. a little.. about her hair.

      • Thurlow Weed

        I wasn’t talking about you.

    • Blind Intellect

I’d only say one thing re: gender and her. I hope she GETS OUT of my gender. She’s making women the world over seem terribly unintelligent.

  • http://FreakoutNation.com/ Anomaly 100

    Gosh, I love the Internet!

    • http://nomadicpolitics.blogspot.com/ Nomad

She sounds like everybody’s worst co-worker story wrapped up in one person.

  • fantagor

So neither condition predates abortion or gay rights, according to this whimpering excuse for a human being.

  • mea_mark

I hope she wins in the primaries, oh what fun that would be.

    • http://nomadicpolitics.blogspot.com/ Nomad

She IS the smartest person in the building, after all.

  • tiredoftea

So, what has she done to “God” to get hair like that?

  • Linda1961

While he was on earth, God’s Son, Jesus, never mentioned abortion or gays. Why do wingnut “Christians” obsess over two things that were never mentioned by Jesus?

    • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker

      Good question.
Because Jesus has long been an excuse for them to defend their bigotry, hate and myopic views?

      • Linda1961

Even though their views bear little resemblance to anything that Jesus taught.

        • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker

          Yep, exactly.
And it’s amazing watching fundamentalist rightwing evangelicals squirm and stutter when the new pope calls them out too.

    • Tommy6860

Probably for the same reasons that they wouldn’t admit to scripture being written by misogynist bronze age goat herders. Oh wait, those people still exist today, and they are almost solely among the GOP.

    • rjcarter

Jesus only referenced homosexuality obliquely, when talking about marriages. And even that’s through the process of inference.

  • Blind Intellect

Dear Ableist, Nazi Bitch: Disabilities are not your imaginary sky daddy’s punishment for anything. Go to Auschwitz, please.

  • http://www.thecosmicsurfer-rantingsofamadwoman.com/ Cosmic_Surfer

The GSA had more than just cause to fire her ass….And that is what they should have done long before they did and long before she escalated to psycho

  • not_buying_it

Am I the only one who enjoyed watching the expressions on the face of Mr. Williams?

    • mmcgrew

That was the best part. Well, her crazy was fun, but his expressions were priceless.

  • Traveler51

She has a better chance of jacking the Pope than unseating Jan in that district. Maybe her act can play in Peoria, but not in Cook co.

  • Michael Maynard

    She seems nice.

  • rjcarter

    S. Atanus <– Coincidence? I think not.

    • T’omm J’Onzz

dammit. how do i up-vote that more than the one? that needs to be on signs and flyers – “VOTE S. ATANUS!”

  • JJ

Her dad must have had sex his sister to make a monstrous beast of a woman like Suzanne. Maybe she can hop on a treadmill and get some psychological help for her deranged and distorted views on life. Maybe her fat a $ $ will have a heart attack soon. Here’s to hoping you have diabetes, Suzanne Anus!

  • FanOfTravel

Looks like god really punished you,you are UGLY!!

    • Shanasmiles

      God punished her hairline.

  • Shanasmiles

Wow. HER god is a prick. Maiming and disabling innocent babies because he’s unhappy with gay folks? Why do god and straight couples keep making gay people? Ugh…the stupid burns so badly, I can’t even snark anymore.

  • Sapphire Possible

    Irresponsible statement.

  • radii

OMG she is the ugliest woman I have ever seen – she looks like that Armenian fat man from Borat … EYEBLEACH !!!!

    highly disqualified.

  • Media Scrutiny

Take it from someone who’s in the IL 9th Congressional as to the dynamics of this result, which was an upset win for Atanus by a few percentage points. If you followed the IL elections, you will note that on the GOP side, there was a Very Contentious Governor’s race between Bruce Rauner and Kirk Dillard. Rauner (who was ahead by 20%) blamed Career Politicians & Public Employee Unions Bosses for much of the fiscal ills of the State. This led the SEIU, AFSCME and Teacher’s Unions to Endorse Dillard, and donate $3 Million to his campaign to defeat Rauner. Democrat Union Voters were asked to pull a GOP ballot (you have to pull one or the other as IL isn’t an “open primary” state) and vote for Dillard. While they were at it, those in the 9th were asked to vote for Atanus over Williams; a Black Republican who would’ve been Schakowsky’s worst nightmare. The tactic worked for this race, but Dillard ended up losing to Rauner by only 4%.
However, the result was doubly sweet for Schakowsky as she now can raise funds by accusing Atanus of being a nut; which seems well on its way of being perpetuated by the Media. The IL Democrats once had to deal with the LaRouchies in the ’80’s. Atanus is the GOP equivalent, and has been ostracized by all the established GOP leadership, which is not noted in this article…
