Mike Huckabee supported government-mandated birth control coverage until Obama became President

On Thursday Mike Huckabee made certain claims about our libidos. With a straight face he said, “If the Democrats want to insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it.”

But Huckabee only thought this way since Obama was elected.

Campaign for America’s Future reports:

This is not the first time Huckabee has ranted about government-mandated birth control coverage. He called it evidence of “a nation that has lost its morals.” He complained that “since you want me out of your bedroom, I just don’t know why I have to pay for what happens in there.” He has even deemed it a factor in the Sandy Hook mass killings by helping remove God from the “public square.”

He’s been hopping mad about it for two years.

Funny story: in 2005, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee signed a law mandating Arkansas insurance plans provide contraception coverage, including church-affiliated organizations such as hospitals and universities.

Nine years ago, Huckabee thought that the government should ensure that everyone had access to contraception. In fact, as the Los Angeles Times detailed in 2012, all sorts of Republicans were happily embracing contraception coverage mandates in the days of Bush and Clinton.

Then Barack Obama became President.

(my bold)

Mike Huckabee was for it before he was against it.

A lot of GOP politicians have been flip flopping on issues since Obama came into office. They just can’t seem to think straight anymore. I wonder if it is because they use up so much energy consuming themselves with hate and bigotry.

      You got it mea-mark
ever since President Obama became President the GOP’s have lost it, They looking and speaking crazy, against laws
they once was for but, now against. They
just can’t stand that a black man is president and a smart one at that.

It pretty much proves that Obama is a moderate and not some crazy Kenyan Marxist socialist whatever else -ist the right likes to call him. The president has embraced a large portion of the GOP platform of the past twenty years causing conservatives to flip out and say and do crazy shit because they are so off kilter trying to be diametrically opposed to the president. They said drill baby drill, he said ok then let’s drill and suddenly the GOP screamed wait! No! What will we attack you on if the us is producing more domestic oil and natural gas than any other time in history?! The heritage foundation in the late 80s and early nineties suggested we have a healthcare mandate to make sure people responsibly cover their own medical costs, so Obama (and Hilary who pushed for this in the 90s) said sounds like a great idea and suddenly the republicans are screaming fuck responsibility just go to the ER and dump the bill on your neighbor! It’s all too much. Really.

“Hate and Bigotry”, our #1 answer.

I dislike Huckabee very much, his policies, his insistence that we all embrace his religion, his face, that I find it difficult to not just react – a knee jerk reaction. But even over compensating for my bias, I am unable to find a legitimate reason for his hand wringing, other than racial bias. I’ve seen the same reaction in several longtime friends and relatives. It’s unsettling when it comes from someone supposedly devoted to public service.

      Or, an entire political party?

        yes, even worse.

He called for the execution of Julian Assange for treason – nevermind Assange isn’t American

WHITE public service. Read Subway was joining Miichelle Obama in good eating habits for kids. All they need to do is put up that picture of Huck’s kids and every kid in America would get on the good eating thing. Even Huck lost a gazillion pounds for his Presidential run, but he’s got his low spare tire back so he must not be planning on running. His kids are chuncky too. His oldest looks as big or bigger than his dad. Wonder what ever happened to Jerrod…fall off the subway diet. Married life can do it to you. He was built like Huck.

I’m sure you’re right. My upbringing was very white. The Kennedy’s were always the model of a family committed to public service. As I got older I realized it was probably easier if earning a living wasn’t a concern – Still, it was something they could have easily given up or at least been less committed to to.

A goper being against something he was for just because Obama is for it – shocking!

Note: I was going to put “A goper changing his mind…” but realized that their is no mind to change.

It’s an entire party of Rufus T Firefly’s singing “I’m Against It” (Marx Bros. Horse Feathers)!

Pres. Obama has more smarts in his little finger than the whole of the clown car and the TParty combined! Every time I hear one of them say Benghazi, I hear their brain cells moaning as they are dying off!

      • tiredoftea

The stupid is overpowering in this one.

  • fantagor

Huckabee thinks his folksy charm excuses his chauvinistic pap because he operates under the illusion “Hee Haw” is still on the air.

And that he is the star…

Another case of I’m for it only until Obama is for it and then I’m against it…..deja vu all over again. Once more a favorite line of mine….President Obama needs to come out in support of oxygen and we’ll watch the republicans suffocate.

  • Hank

“On Thursday Mike Huckabee made certain claims about our libidos.”

Except that….no he didn’t. He commented on the way Democrats cheapen women while accusing the Republicans of a “War on women.”

This party is mentally disturbed and actually becoming quite scary. I just read an article that they censored John McCain for not being conservative enough. This is a group that is authoratarian, rigid and becoming quite cruel to any and all who do not bend to their will. They scare people which is why they lost the last two presidentail elections, Yet they still don’t understand why. Unless you are a white male Christian you will be their target.
