Happy New Year: Fox News’ Ratings Take A Big Hit As Dish Network Blackout Continues

Fox News is taking a big hit in ratings in the midst of the dispute with satellite TV provider Dish Network. 14 million subscribers were/are left without Fox News Channel.

For the week ending on Dec. 28th, Fox News averaged 939,000 prime-time viewers, bringing that down from 1.65 million viewers the previous week and 1.68 million the week before that, according to data from Nielsen Media.

The International Business Times reports:

..Fox’s prime-time ratings are down almost 12 percent when compared to the same week last year, when it averaged 1.06 million viewers. That makes sense: Dish Network has a market share of about 13.4 percent of the pay-TV industry.

Fox News viewership is also down in the key 25-54 demo. The network averaged 160,000 weekly viewers in the demo, compared to 175,000 for the same week last year.

Since Dec. 21st, Dish Network blocked Fox News and Fox Business, after Dish accused Fox of trying to leverage Fox News’ popularity to secure higher rates for a less popular channel.

Dish’s senior vice president of programming, Warren Schlichting, accused Fox News of attempting to increase fees for sports and entertainment channels during the contract’s negotiation, which did not include those channels.

Both sides are blaming the other.

But Fox viewers were prompted by a site set up by the network to vent frustration, make calls, and send emails because their business negotiations weren’t panning out in their favor.

On a site which was created by Fox, it reads in part:

Despite the undeniable demand for FOX News Channel, DISH Network is threatening to put their corporate interests ahead of their customers, by blocking the most-trusted name in cable news.

Ah, the free market isn’t such a happy place for Fox right now. Suddenly, Fox is concerned with a corporation flexing its muscles – after they touted corporations as being people, my friend.

Suggestion: Fox viewers can spend their time during the black out reading ‘news’ from an equally credible source: the National Enquirer. There, they can find out if Hillary Clinton is really from the planet Benghazi.

Fox News, the network that brought us the fake Ebola scare, the Obamacare death panels, Sarah Palin as an analyst, and Jesus, the white savior who was totally not white.
