An Illinois man ‘accidentally’ shot himself in the head while he was driving with a gun he thought was unloaded.
25-year-old Chadd Harrison, of Bolingbrook, was driving with two passengers in the car at about 12:30 a.m. when the shooting occurred, according to Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli,
Harrison was driving with two passengers around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Valayna Drive when he shot himself in the head.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the passengers said Harrison pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and began playing with the weapon while he was driving.
That’s when Harrison allegedly told the passengers that the gun was unloaded, then proceeded to hold the gun to his head, then he squeezed the trigger.
One of the passengers managed to put the vehicle in park and then called the police.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported Harrison to an Aurora hospital where he was pronounced dead, Ferrelli said.
His obituary reads, “Chadd R. Harrison, age 25, passed away unexpectedly….”
Chadd Harrison died of stupidity. There, I said it.
Last month, a 2-year-old South Carolina boy found a loaded gun in the car then shot his grandmother in the back. She was fortunate enough to survive her injuries.
Never point a gun to something you don’t want obliterated. Treat a firearm as if it’s loaded at all times and keep deadly weapons away from children.
Our headline might appear to be insensitive – even though it’s correct – but people should know that guns do kill people.
