GOP Gov Blames Heroin Epidemic On Dealers ‘Named D-Money’ Who Impregnate White Girls (Video)

Republican Gov. Paul LePage went full blown racist today blaming out-of-state drug dealers who he says are impregnating “young white” girls.

Heroin use is becoming a huge issue across the northeast, so the Maine Governor blamed men with names like “D-Money, Smoothie and Shifty.”

During a town hall meeting LePage responded to a question about how he was tackling substance abuse in Maine, then he began talking about how much of the heroin is coming into Maine from out-of-state drug dealers, according to the Portland Press Herald.

LePage went on to say that drug dealers frequently “impregnate a young white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue that we gotta deal with down the road.”

Even though it’s obvious that the governor was talking about black people, a spokesman said Thursday he wasn’t making a comment about race.

Phil Bartlett, chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, said LePage’s comments “at best were coded racism,” designed to divide Maine people.

He said that the Governor’s remarks fit into a national narrative by Republicans, who are increasingly using “pretty overt racist language and imagery rather than talking about the merits of public policy.”

“It’s outrageous,” Bartlett said. “Everybody should be denouncing his comments and what they’re intended to provoke. I would call upon all Republicans to stand up and say this is wrong and it’s not acceptable in our public discourse. It’s simply indefensible.”

The Portland Press Herald reports:

Lance Dutson, a Republican operative who runs the Get Right Maine website, which seeks to restore a more moderate brand of Republicanism in Maine, described the remark in a blog post as “one of the most offensive statements yet from this Governor.”

The Republican governor has a history of making controversial remarks.

LePage once said that he’d tell President Obama to “go to hell.”  Soon after he was elected to his first term, he told the Portland chapter of the NAACP to “kiss my butt.”

He has compared the IRS to the Gestapo and called protesters “idiots.”

In another incident, he said a political foe liked to “give it to the people without Vaseline.”
