One of the most brilliant minds in the world, astrophysicist Stephen Hawking could not resist speaking about the Donald Trump phenomena. Long-time political columnists and pundits have continued to expect Trump to trip himself up and stumble away from the election, but the billionaire surprised them all, rising to the top of the Republican crowd.
Trump won by being the least politic of all the contenders. People know him from his reality television show, “The Apprentice” and decades of media exposure. He seems immune when he breaks traditional political rules, and appears to do no wrong in the eyes of his political fans. But why?
It is one month shy of a year since Trump announced his candidacy, but the man has managed to stay in front of the media nearly every day. That means he has garnered close to two billion dollars in free publicity.
Hawking decided to tackle the man who cannot fail in an interview with ITV Monday, referring to him as a:
‘…demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator.’
‘Gone are the days we could stand on our own against the world. We need to be part of a larger group of nations, both for our security and our trade.’
Bright politicians, top political scientists, fine actors, and others just do not get how the enigma Trump exists. Hawking is no different. He noted that both Trump and Sanders are a reflection of the public’s frustration with Washington, D.C. and how frozen its politicians are.
Some well-known Republicans have so disliked Trump, they have formally moved to the Libertarian Party, notably Mary Matalin.
Regardless of whether bright minds condemn him, Trump plows on as the formidable Republican candidate. He is dangerous, because people do not understand him and cannot anticipate his next moves. People do not know whether the real estate mogul is putting on an act or genuinely the character he portrays. They do not know if his rants are drama or hovering on the edge of sanity.
The question becomes, what people will find, if Trump removes his mask? The idea is terrifying.
