College Republicans at University of California Davis (UC Davis) canceled speeches from “alt-right” talking head Milo Yiannopoulos and Big Pharma bro Martin Shkreli amid protests Friday night.

Apparently, the “special snowflakes” who run the College Republicans chapter at UC Davis and invited these wolf’s heads onto the campus can’t handle a little free speech. USA Today reports:

‘University police put up barricades as protesters shouting “shut it down” grew increasingly rowdy in the hours leading up to the talks. The UC Davis College Republicans, who sponsored the event, chose to cancel about a half-hour before the event began.’

USA Today also takes care to note campus police at University of California Davis “said there was no violence or property destruction, and no arrests were made.”

The UC Davis College Republicans canceled the event 30 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. Andrew Mendoza, the group’s executive director told ABC 7:

“We came here to have an event that would promote free speech. And we didn’t have any speech.”

He later sniveled that “the students’ lives were at risk” even though the protests not violent:

“The students’ lives were at risk. At a certain point the officers lives became to be at risk, and the school property became to be at risk. There was no point in having this if a single person got hurt.”

No, you insufferable, white-male-privileged jerk. If you cared about the students’ lives, you wouldn’t support hate speech against women, Hispanics, Muslims, Jews, blacks, Asians, and others.

The event was free and the 400 free tickets “went quick,” ABC 7 reports. But like their grown-up counterparts, the College Republicans ignore the fact that hate speech doesn’t count as “free speech.” The event venue — like the entire University of California Davis campus — is funded by tax payers. Plus, the student protesters are paying a hefty $14,046 (in-state) and $40,728 (out-of-state) in tuition and fees and have every right to feel outraged.

As Haley Scholety told ABC 7, she and her fellow students’ issues lie “mostly with Milo,” not with Martin Shkreli.

“…just how everything he [Milo Yiannopoulos] has to say has to bring people down. It’s not what we should stand for as a community, especially at Davis.”

While Martin Shkreli is just a run-of-the-mill hedge fund douche, Milo Yiannopoulos promotes racism, hate, and misogyny through his platform at the infamous Breitbart “news” site. Meanwhile, his former boss Steve Bannon will soon be the chief strategist in president-elect Donald Trump’s Oval Office.

Even “free speech” in a supposedly “free country” has its limits. Like falsely shouting “fire” in a crowded movie theater, hate speech is dangerous. After Donald Trump “won” the White House, the number of hate crimes rose to more than 1,000 in the weeks after the election. Luckily, even haters and neo-Nazis seem to take time off for the holidays. On Jan. 5, USA Today reported a slow-down, though the number of incidents remain above pre-election levels.

UC Davis Interim Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter has been a fierce defender of the super douche event and told USA Today.

“Our community is founded on principles of respect for all views, even those that we personally find repellent. As I have stated repeatedly, a university is at its best when it listens to and critically engages opposing views, especially ones that many of us find upsetting or even offensive.”

Sorry, but thanks to Donald Trump, we’ve had quite enough exposure to “free speech” from women-hating, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim white supremacists like Milo Yiannopoulos. Being “tolerant” does not require us to tolerate intolerance.

But of course, folks on the (alt) Right love to complain about how their white selves are being persecuted.

And now they’re claiming “Violent far left thugs” shut down Milo Yiannopoulos’ “free speech” with “hammers and bottles of urine.”

For their sakes, we hope it doesn’t turn out to be Donald Trump’s urine.

Here’s the video with a highly-biased report from ABC 7. Even according to them, only one arrest occurred “for obstructing an officer and battery of a peace officer.”
