Republican nominee Greg Gianforte is accused of body slamming a reporter for the Guardian. This happened the day before a special election for Montana’s congressional seat.
Republican nominee Greg Gianforte is accused of assaulting Ben Jacobs after the reporter tried to ask a question about health care during a campaign event in Bozeman.
Gianforte’s campaign said in a statement that Jacobs entered a private office “without permission” and attributed the incident to “aggressive behavior from a liberal journalist.”
As it happens, a Fox News crew was in the room and captured audio of the alleged assault.
Even worse for Gianforte, the Fox News crew is backing up Jacobs’ version of events.
The crew witnessed Ben Jacobs walk into the room with a voice recorder and put it up to Gianforte’s face and began asking if him if he had a response to the newly released Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on the American Health Care Act.

Fox News reports:
Gianforte told him he would get to him later. Jacobs persisted with his question. Gianforte told him to talk to his press guy, Shane Scanlon.
At that point, Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of “I’m sick and tired of this!”
Jacobs scrambled to his knees and said something about his glasses being broken. He asked Faith, Keith and myself for our names. In shock, we did not answer. He then said he wanted the police called and went to leave. Gianforte looked at the three of us and repeatedly apologized. At that point, I told him and Scanlon, who was now present, that we needed a moment. The men then left.
This is in stark contrast to Gianforte’s statement:
To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff’s deputies.
As for myself and my crew, we are cooperating with local authorities. It is not clear if charges will be filed against Gianforte at this time.
Gianforte and Democrat Rob Quist are facing off to replace Ryan Zinke, who resigned on March 1 to become alleged president Donald Trump’s Secretary of the Interior. Normally, we’d say this guy is done but conservatives had no issues with supporting a pussy grabber to lead this nation so it could go either way. But, it looks like Gianforte lied to the police.
Gianforte has financial ties to a number of Russian companies that have been sanctioned by the US, the Guardian reported in late April.
