White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has emerged from his hiding spot in the bushes to spend Monday swearing up and down that there is still “no need for a special prosecutor” — even after Donald Trump fired FBI James Comey for investigating his collusion with Russia to steal the presidential election. And he said it with a straight face.
During Monday’s press briefing, Spicer went on a tirade insisting that a special prosecutor is absolutely not necessary, despite that fact that it clearly is and has been since the beginning.
I think this is a process that is running completely as it should,” Spicer told Fox News correspondent John Roberts. “It’s been handled by the deputy attorney general and the attorney general. The FBI director reports to the deputy attorney general.”
“There’s frankly no need for a special prosecutor,” he added. “You have two Senate committees that are looking into this, the FBI is conducting their review.”
“It’s been made very clear, that with respect to the president himself, both Sen. Schumer, Sen. Feinstein, Sen. Manchin and everyone else who has been briefed on this has been very clear that there’s no collusion with respect to the president himself or no investigation there.
Obviously, this is a steaming pile of bullshit. The FBI director was fired after testifying that there most certainly is an ongoing investigation into Russia’s election meddling and Trump’s collusion with Moscow. Comey found out from the nightly news, no less, just one day after requesting additional funds for the investigation and the same day that the first round of subpoenas came out. How the hell Spicer can stand there and honestly say that “there’s frankly no need for a special prosecutor” is completely beyond reason.
Trump is as crooked as they come and he has been in Putin’s pocket since day one. And everybody knows it. We have never needed a special prosecutor as badly as we do now.
