Even Fox News hosts are baffled by the lies pouring out of team Trump following Don Junior’s meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer. Fox News anchor Shep Smith has had it over the “mind-boggling deception” in the Trump administration following Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. Chris Wallace weighed in, too.
Fox News host Shep Smith urged the Trump administration to “come clean” about all of their ties to Russia, then pointed out that the repeated “lies” that members of team Trump have told about who was at the meeting and what they discussed, according to The Hill.
Donald Trump Jr. denied meeting with Russian officials then released an email chain of him setting up the meeting, which included Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. In total, (so far) five Russians were in the meeting with team Trump that we know of. That number could increase because the public really doesn’t know what happened at that meeting at this point.
“John Roberts confirms there was an eighth person in that meeting. We don’t know, there may have been more, but there was an eighth,” Smith said. “Jared Kushner filled out his form, I think it’s an F-86, saying who he’d met with and what he had done.”
“Very important stuff, you can go to prison for messing it up, you know, intentionally,” he continued. “He went back and added 100 names and places. None of these people made it. It’s still not — we’re still not clear on this, Chris.”
“It’s — if there’s nothing there and that’s what they tell us, they tell us there’s nothing to this and nothing came of it, there’s a nothing burger, it wasn’t even memorable, didn’t write it down, didn’t tell you about it, because it wasn’t anything so I didn’t even remember it, with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower,” Smith said.
“If all of that, why all of these lies?” he asked. ‘Why is it lie after lie after lie? If you’re clean, come out clean. You know, my grandmother used to say “When first we practice to — oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.”‘
“If there’s nothing there, and that’s what they tell us, why all these lies?” Smith added. “The deception is mind-boggling and there are still people out there who think we’re making it up. And one day they are going to realize we are not.”
Chris Wallace said, “You know, I don’t know what to say. I think there’s a lot of truth to everything that you’ve said.” As Wallace said earlier, this shouldn’t be a matter of, “liberal versus conservative” but it should be about that we were “repeatedly mislead.” The story we were told is that the meeting was “about adoption,” he said, but that’s just not true.
